GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

I've been backing ATi this whole time (I confess! Nvidia's stupidly inconsistent driver practices have turned me against them!), but honestly, that cannot be right can it? :\

If it is, I find this highly disappointing. 25W idle is nice, though, not worth £450 or whatever, though.

I don't actually want to believe it, but the facts* are slapping me in the face. Disappointing performance, crazy specs that don't seem to really show for anything, crazy power consumption?

GT200 = new R600?

Argh, the 17th (or was it 16th?) can't come fast enough.

Edit: *Uh, y'know the um, 'facts'. :p

I can't believe that.

Surely nVidia won't drop it in at £400 if it struggled to beat a £250 card.

Man its getting hot in here and our wallets aint even out.

Wasnt there an inkwell thread about an Nvidia price drop...

Regardless might be right ATI might have a chance......

Well pc gamer list the price as $649 which is £400+ inc VAT here on a straight price conversion with no import duty.

And if reviews are going to give it 97% and say it's better than when a 8800GTX came out and you have to remember that it's a single gpu card therefore better than a dual gpu card even if the dual gpu card is cheaper and faster then people will buy it!

Just a few days to wait lads and ladettes ;). Keep yer knickers on as when we see the performance of these cards we will be able to estimate the performance of the X2 4850/70's on facts, not rumours.

I have to admit I thought Nvidia were going to be ahead but with speculation I'm doubting what I first thought.

Maybe they are coming out with a HA! We fooled u, its a gazillion times quicker, dont screw with us ATi? Doubtful but still, thats an insane cost of a card.

I wonder if maxishine will do a tri sli 280 GTX vid on youtube. That will be insane. Infact, if there is any man who will give us a comparison test it is him, guy buys everything :)

I damn well hope so actually. If the 4870 even comes close the the GTX280, but is nigh half the price, AMD won't even have an incentive to release R700. :(
