GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

That GTX280 is overclocked by 100MHz... That in itself is amazing considering the size of the chip

That being said, while it's does seem to be the fastest card in the test, it doesn't seem to be by any kind of large margin, and even loses out to the 3870 X2 in stalker, and often the 9800 GX2 in other tests, the OC edition actually consumes more power than the 3870 X2, 9800 GX2 and 2900 XT while under load. It's fast, but not 'I'd spend £400+ on one' fast.

The 2048x1536 are a complete joke :/

The 55nm should spice things up a little though.

Should really be what the 2900XT was to the 3870.

But the 2900 XT went from 80nm to 55nm to get the 3870, that's a much, much more significant die shrink than 65nm to 55nm. Especially considering 80nm was hardly known for its power efficiency (i.e. if I remember rightly, it was said to leak power like a ... female dog of some variety).

And if those charts are true all it says to me is the GTX280 at stock is almost as fast as a GX2 but sometimes 10% less performance.

Okay single gpu but hardly a result to set the world on fire especially when you are looking at well over £100 more for a GTX card over a GX2 card which is then actually slower unless you overclock it?

True but still and improvement. If the current GTX280 can overclock by over 100Mhz then perhaps you might get 150-200Mhz from a 55nm die shrink.

No theyre not a complete joke... that's one game, and timedemo at that. Supreme cCommander shows almost 100% gains at that res.

People making blanket assumptions based on a single game or benchmark is starting to become tiresome.

But it seems that it's going to come to market at a higher price point than the GX2, which actually seems to beat it in a lot of tests.

Don't forget that a 9800GX2 is close to 2x the performance of an 9800GTX... and considering the GT280 beats the GX2 in a fair bit, and will liklely do even better at insane resolutions... it's roughly in line with previous performance gains. Remember this is a 512-bit, 32ROP monster... we're not going to be seeing the same gains at lower resolutions (1600x1200 or below) that we used to without some SERIOUS (Nehalem style) CPU power behind it. The major gains we start to see now as tech advances will be in the uber resolutions with AA/AF.

Seems to be about 50% - 75% faster than the 8800GTX (which itself was about 75% - 125% faster than the 7900GTX).

You can argue that the results are poor, but in all fairness, it's not suprising because the technology hasn't improved all that much over the 8800 series, it's just a really beefed up version. The change from the Geforce 7 to the Geforce 8 on the other hand was huge.

Well I had a big decision to make! My 8800GT had died yesterday after 2weeks though I'm getting a full refund from where I got it from :D So what do I do, wait for the new cards to be released or jump on one now!

Well im pretty happy as the results that seem to be appearing justify my choice. I paid £140 for a brand new 9800GTX which I have in my system now and the 280GTX appears to be the same/better performer than the 9800GX2 but basically the single card version! Looks like I may have made a wise decision here on the card as the 4850 appears to slightly lag being the 9800GTX and the 4870 will be more expensive than my GTX anyways! :D happy days!

I can't be rid of my 8800GTX, can't find anyone who wants to buy it ._.

Feels kinda bad to have a £300 card in an anti static bag in my desk and a £500 card in my machine :(

They are a joke, I'm not talking about the GTX 280 performance. Theres NO WAY any of those cards are doing that well, 27FPS on a 8800GTX? Yeah, right. You are seriously lucky to get 5fps at those settings.

Any news on any of the new F@H clients? I would really like to see some figures for them, i would like to get into folding again and considering just getting a 4870 for the job, but i don't think they're updating the clients?

Why have they always been so bad at making this information easily available anyway, it's about helping a lot of people in the world, why so damn secretive about it all the time?
