GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

too bad, my GX2 seems to be just as good as a 280 :/ big woop

In terms of average FPS, sure. But even in "SLI-optimised" games, multi-GPU configurations have serious problems.

Apart from doubling-up on memory usage etc, the main problem is uneven frame outputs. There is nothing to guarantee that frames will be output with a uniform gap between them. Since it is this gap (rather than the raw number of frames) that the eye catches, the result is that 60fps on an SLI setup does not appear as smooth as 60fps with a single-card solution.

I noticed this personally when I went from SLI'd 6800GTXs to a single 7800GTX. In terms of benchmarks they exchanged the lead in performance benchmarks (average FPS), but the difference in game-smoothness was like night and day. The SLI config couldn't hold a candle to the single card solution.

Ooo anyone notice something on the Guru3D review? (http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-280-review-test/)

im very impressed with the power requirements of the cards. the performance is about right for the succeeding generation to the g80, im not sure what every was really expecting. the price tag is a shame, because id snap one up otherwise (i know its not known yet, but its going to be big lol)

So pick a price Gents...

£350
£399
£450
£499

I'm going for £399 :p

Well 500-550 euros = £394 - £433 over here but not sure if their prices took acount of VAT differences across europe in their 500-550 range. If it doesn't then I'm betting on either £450 or £499.

I can't see it been £399. $650 = £333 plus VAT = £391.67. We never, ever get straight conversions plus import duty will be more than £7.33.

Hmm need more reviews, not sure what to make of that one so far.
Certainly is a decent single card solution but I was expecting at least playable crysis perf in 1920 very high, looks not to be the case.
But then it really needs to be compared to a 8800GTX or Ultra, as those are the people most likely to be looking to upgrade, the 9800/gx2 owners would be less likely too IMO.

I would say price on release .... 399 inc vat but likely + 10% gouging fee ;)

Oh well, I won't chuck out my 9800GX2 just yet then! Nice to see the £330 wasn't a complete waste, especially considering that the GTX 280 will cost a fair bit more than that and only performs about the same.
