GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

We tested all cards on dBA levels. Obviously the reference coolers all perform roughly the same. The customized coolers are either louder or softer depending on what they try to achieve.

* So in IDLE mode, you will not hear the card. We measure less than 38 DBa coming from the PC.
* Gaming with an average title not stressing the GPU too much we can hear the fan a little, we measure roughly 40 DBa.
* When we loop 3DMark Vantage for a while the GPU really heats up, as side-effect the fan RPM will go up even higher, the noise-levels are now 44 DBa which definitely is very hearable, overall these results are okay, really.

That puts me off straight away. Loud coolers, you'd think they'd learn by now...

EDIT - Yeah and those prices have sealed the deal, no thanks :D

im very impressed with the power requirements of the cards. the performance is about right for the succeeding generation to the g80, im not sure what every was really expecting. the price tag is a shame, because id snap one up otherwise (i know its not known yet, but its going to be big lol)

I agree. I'm impressed with those low power states.

That would really suit my HTPC except it's a bit toasty. 55C idle (stock) and with all those voltages and clock speeds reduced too. I reckon it'll be 5c hotter in my case.

edit - just seen the price, nevermind.

Lol OK results ?? not too me 38dB idle is NOT Quiet !

Prices are either silly gouging or nvidia can take a running jump ... £470 lol looks like the trusty Ultra has a stay of execution for now.

I'm loving the power management in this card. I'm looking to build a case that can be come nice and silent at night and this card looks like it's doing okay relative to it's power :)

Lol....

BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC 896MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

At a shade under £300 I want to see how it differs to the 4850 AMD as the AMD is going to be much cheaper so if performance is greater on the 260 I will just get it but if it's the AMD then screw the nvidia...

I still cant get my head asround why people are disappointed in the reviews and the general performance. The fact NVidia have managed to pack in similar > better performance than their current DUAL GPU configuration is a great achievement for them. As said before when SLi doesnt work the GX2 only uses one core so in theory half the performance and the 280GTX doesnt suffer from that potential setback!

That being said im sure the prices will come down quickly, they always do after a launch! Plus one of them will be on this week only no doubt!
