GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

These threads make me laugh, read from the beginning every-ones like "cant wait for this card is going to be amazing", "I'm deffantly going to get one".

Now becourse the price tag is out the roof (yes I do agree its expensive) and people cant afford them, the general conversation has changed to yeah but my 8800gt's are as quick, or I'm going to get a GX2.

I wonder if the orginal conversation of "I want one" would have continued it the GTX280 was £350 and the 260 £230!!

Most people I think are just slighty upset that they cannot afford it, at the end of the day it a single GPU that blows anything out the water with 4XAA+ and 16XAF+ @ 1660x1050 or more, lets face it like the 8800GTX its again the fastest card on the market, your going to have to pay top coinage for that!

There is always a premium for top end hardware.

But in this instance the extra money over the GX2 is not worth it in todays climate.

In part I kind of agree, in another way I disagree entirely. The real problem is that for its current performance, it by no means justifies its price tag, and the 9800 GX2, at £100 cheaper is rather close in performance to the GTX280, in more than a handful of applications it even goes as far as to outperform it.

The best single GPU product on the market, but does it matter if there are dual GPU products that don't consume any more power than it, do the job just as well and cost less?

Its more to it than that; the reviews came out at the same time as the price. And its not as good as expected.

**** this **** I don't need a new graphics card, gonna buy something nice for the gf instead
this temporary GPU obsession has all gone to my head and for no good I tells ya:)

I never said i buy one and i can afford one but will not buy because
1 the pc i got at moment
2 the screen i run on is1360x768
3 the price
4 i get a 48** or a gt to replace my 320

I'm guessing that's based on how the RV770s are though? If they're cheap but powerful, like the result's on Easy's poll, most people are gonna give NV a miss.

Well, the ATI cards aren't out yet, so I would hold off the vow not to upgrade yet :)

Well if it plays Crysis 1920x1200 above 40fps then I will be in the market of ATI but if it doesn't then there's no point at /all/ upgrading my 8800GT until there is a card that can because none of these new cards are next gen yet :p

My next GFX card needs to be able to play Crysis Warhead without breaking a sweat max details DX10/10.1.

Who gives a flying **** about the power consumption?
The jump from a 7900 to 8800 was massive at the time, and like already mentioned I doubt we will see that for a long time to come.

The GX2 costing less is a point to think about, but its an SLI GPU and comes with all the problems of that to boot.

Me, I will be buying one when their a little less than £400.

Put your last prayers into ATI (LMAO) but please dont hold your breathe cause there wont be any-one left in these forums!

Okay, fair enough you want to buy one, we have our opinions and you have yours. If you feel it's the superior product buy it, I hope you enjoy it. And no, I don't think I could hold my breath for 9 days to be honest.

To be honest I think everyone in the UK should just buy ATI cards just to stick it to Nvidia and for the lulz. :D

That's cool, 'cause Crysis is the only game ever, that and 3D Mark. :p

Come on, stop setting crysis as the datum. There's gonna be many new games out over the next year that will justify an upgrade. Crysis is old hat, and only when other devs will be adopting the Cryengine 2, will there be any realistic need to have good performance on the Cryengine 2. I highly doubt the Cryengine 2 will be adopted and used by other devs though, but if it did, that would only be the realistic way we'd see better optimised games running on it.

Which other game brings a high spec computer to its knees like Crysis does? It is and will be the benchmark for some time to come, good game or not, it isnt old hat yet!

I mentioned Crysis because if anything can run Crysis then it can run anytrhing at any setting and I think anyone will agree to that.

Anyhow, that's a lot of "any"s to take in I know but it's kind of the truth.
Crysis Warhead is not going to be any more friendlier either as they're planning on giving it a visual update too.. so if you want a GFX card that's going to last the whole of 2009 then you are not going to want to buy anything coming out this season /at all/

I'm hoping the ATI cards change this view but I highly doubt it now.

I was all ready to buy one of these, .....and then the reviews came out.

I think I'll go ATI now so long as the price is right. The GTX's are nowhere near as powerful as expected and the 48xx's will no doubt offer much better value and will not be as far behind as I expected.

LMAO I cannot believe people are trying to justify the performance at this price....

8800GTX was expectedly priced since it was such a massive boost over a 7800GTX but this? no way....

What you posting the crap that is crysis up for, one dodgy game that is so badly coded it is unreal, please look at the majority of the other benches from the same site, the increase over the GTX is massive in many games, crysis LMAO.
