GT86/GR86/BRZ

Rightly so, especially if they improve stability.
I've been told to expect a cal from Toyota regarding insurance, but think it's probably best to go with an independent.

Most insurers will want extra or say no. Performance car/modified car specialist insurers are best. I'm with Greenlight who don't charge extra for most mods.

Ok cool. I will use the Toyota 3 day insurance and then call around some specialists for Thursday.

Quotes from normal insurers were coming in at around £500.

The problem with putting wider/bigger wheels on is it makes handling worse.

Many modern cars have wheels which are really to big for them, for bling reasons.

18" is standard on Aero and TRD models. If you're careful about alloy and tyre choice it really doesn't make that big a difference, but looks a whole lot better. With 225/40/18 you're 5mm bigger than standard. My CE28's are 2.6kg lighter per corner than the stock alloys, which is then offset by the increase in tyre weight. The steering is a tiny bit heavier yes - but to be honest I prefer it like that, and I noticed no adverse effects to the handling.

Picked it up today!

2 questions though, the door won't lock when I touch the 2 horizontal lines. I just get a continuous beep.
And when I turn the stereo off it says stereo off on the screen. Which leads me to think it's not completely off.

What am I doing wrong?

Continuous beep means a key is in the car.

Yes, the audio system is integrated so when you 'turn it off' you're essentially just muting it. Perfectly normal.

Key definitely wasn't in the car, it was in my hand.

Thanks, that's put my mind at ease.

Because I had mentioned the battery faults some cars have, they put a brand new battery in for me.

How does the key react when in the car, is it a steady green flash on the dash then solid green with the clutch engaged and no beeping? Assuming you've not left the 2nd key inside the car? The key might start to behave strange if the fob battery is getting low.

The entertainment system is always on when the car is running as it also provides the handsfree/reverse cam option/gps and on other cars the same type of unit also did car status updates (hybrid system etc). There is an option to turn the screen off if needed in the options menu.

Took mine back to the dealer again for more repairs, found even more errors caused by the dealer so the case gets escalated again and more parts on order. A simple repair job of 2 bits of glass and 4 cloth guides now going to enter its 5th month.

Both keys? You get two. One's probably in the glove box, centre console next to start button, or in the cubby-hole next to the handbrake.

OK went for a little drive and this time when I got out it locked OK. I think maybe it was because I had both keys together, or because I had my mobile phone too near them. With just one key in my pocket it was fine.

The stereo also turned itself completely off this time.

Sometimes it will think the key is in the car if you have it right up against the outside of it.

Another thing that makes it beep is if you try to lock it from the outside when the car isn't actually off :p

It's funny because the salesman walked me around the car, and explained that you need to press the unlock button twice to unlock the passenger door, but didn't explain the horizontal lines at all.

I think I will have to get an armrest as it seemed weird without one.

And I would like the mirrors to fold in automatically when the doors lock. As I know I will forget to press the button half the time.

There's a mod kicking about on the forums somewhere, involves retrofitting the BRZ module if I remember correctly.

Any pics yet? :)

I've been reading about the mod, but I was hoping it could have been programmed by the dealers some how.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow, it's been a long day.

I made that mistake when I picked my GT86 few years ago, I went to the gym and left one of the keys in the boot in my work bag but then took the key out and it locked automatically.
The mod bug will bite you eventually, you'll be wanting a louder exhaust to get that boxer rumble. =D
