GT86/GR86/BRZ

There shouldn't be any difference should there?

I've heard a few people saying they've got a couple more MPG here and there and/or their engine is revving a bit smoother than before.

Whether that's the placebo effect or not I'm not too sure but time will tell! :)

Dropped off my car and picked up my Corolla Courtesy Car today. I must say it's a great car to drive. Very different style of driving needed but once you get used to it (only took me around 10 minutes) it's so comfy and quiet.

Averaging 66mpg, not too shabby. It's the 1.8 Hybrid. It's nippy when you floor it but very dosile when you're <50% throttle, my only peeve with this thing is the fact the throttle above 40mph feels like it's on or off, with very little inbetween.

Sounds just like the one I had. Eco driving mode really makes the throttle unresponsive, but chuck it into Sport mode and it's a very different drive, albeit still a bit asthmatic at the top end.

Wonder if you have to do slight run in period with the engine before abusing it.

Not at all. It's only the valve springs. I know one car that was finished on a Friday and was being raced the following day without any issues.

I noticed no difference in the drive with mine. Any smoothness and MPG increase is probably due to new plugs.

No, no change in spec with the new ones - just the materials of the original were potentially contaminated.

Was advised that the run in period is just about a minute of idle for the valve springs to settle and then that's that.

Picked up my car only to find it had no coolant to be seen in the bottle... A quick boot-off in the dealership and it's been filled. Whether this was an airlock as they tried to pin it to or not I don't know, because going from Full to the bottle being bone dry seems a damn lot to me. They've now topped it up to 3" over full so going to have to find a way to get some of that out..

Other than that, it seems to have a bit of a lifter tick noise which I'm going to keep an eye on. But no knocking or anything so far. £335 cost for the 6 Year service. £91 for spark plugs, however much for rear diff oil and £171 labour...

So they rushed the job through in 2.5 days but didn't bleed through the coolant properly. Would hate to think what other shortcuts they took. They say it's a 3-4 day job so it's done properly, I really wouldn't be happy with that.

This is supposed to be their master technician who has underfilled the system and now over filled it because he can't be bothered to do his job properly. Toyota head office should be made aware they are rushing jobs.

They rush it because Toyota GB aren’t paying sufficient hours to do it right. I know the fastest my garage has done it is 16 hours. They only get paid for 12.5 of that.

Day 1 Summary time:

So, the issues/annoyances I have experienced so far are listed below:
  1. Coolant was nowhere to be seen, supposedly due to an airlock. Which absolutely should have been checked by themselves before handing the car back to me.
  2. Once I brought this up, they took the car in to "have a look" and dropped it off outside the door for me. Not being absolutely satisfied I decided to give it another check. It was now 3-4" above the "FULL" marker.
  3. Underside of the bonnet covered in oil/dirt with some scratching where paint has been removed. Presuming they have put this on the floor somewhere whilst they worked on the car.
  4. Increased noise from injectors or valves, sounds like tappets.
  5. Throttle Body/Inlet Manifold making loud electrical whine and scraping noise when actuating the throttle. May be there from usual but definitely comes across as being louder.
  6. Airbox no longer seems fully connected to the front scoop under the bumper.
  7. Air Filter has not been changed in the £335 service. Still dirty and remains in the car, this is in the service guidelines as due replacement every 3 Years/30k. This is the 6 Year service so should have been replaced.
  8. Car has been "Washed" and came out a lot dirtier than when I brought it in.
  9. Charged £171 labour for Rear Differential Oil which should be changed every 20k/4 Year. It's on 42k so should have been changed, but this is not on the description of "Goods / Services", rather just an Oil Filter, Spark Plugs and Screenwash that I didn't ask for.
Not happy at all and need to think about writing a complaint asking for a portion, if not all of my money back. Will be going straight to head office should I receive nothing that satisfies me. Considering these are things I have found on day one I dread to think if there's anything else that may have been missed. Especially given the amount of engines that have gone bang after this.

Overall, if anyones near Newcastle/Sunderland area. Do not take your car to Toyota Wearside.

Not re-sealing them properly is what killed some. Using to much RTV and blocking oil routes. They shouldn't be letting inexperienced mechanics near it.

The year 6 service should include air filter, brake fluid, rear diff oil, oil and filter change and spark plugs for £400, so really you've only saved £65.

Invoice shows:
£9.52 Oil Filter
£1.20 Screenwash (Which hasn't even been topped up, still remains on the "LOW" marker on the dipstick)
£91.20 4x Spark Plugs
£171.23 Labour for "Full Service" (More like 1/3 Service)

No sign of Diff Oil which should have been included.

Currently writing up a complaint and asking for a refund.

Probably skipped the dif oil thinking no one will notice. But it's an LSD so you can't really get away with ignoring it.

Definitely. I've sent off my rather long worded email to the service manager I was dealing with, the guy who signed off my recall letter and the branches general manager. Hopefully that gets me somewhere, if not, it's going to head office.

Not sure if I'd trust them to change the diff oil should they request I bring the car in for it to be done. I feel like should I annoy them they may not take kindly if my engine goes bang.

My friend just had his re-call done and your list looks somewhat better than his is.

Clips broken, hoses bent and put in the wrong way round, clips for fuel lines replaced with jubilee clip, engi e cover cracked and searched and then attempted to be repaired with super glue which has run all over the engine... The list is longer and that's all he can see from the top of the bay. All on a mint 30K 86.

They are clearly rushing the jobs and have any random bafoon doing it. Very poor.
