GTX 1060

I haven't seen the announcement on any site apart from Videocardz and wccftech. There is no mention of it on Nvidia's own website so where have these guys got the info?
If you're looking for confirmation, also realize there's been no official confirmation of there being a 3GB 1060 yet of any kind, either. Just what's been reported by the same sites.

Not had chance to read announcement as am out of office and in middle of nowhere, just got my phone!

So the announcement is $299 for FE 6Gb? Then custom 3Gb cards $249 and upwards is correct?

That is what it looks to be, with a release date of the 17th.

Shh!! You're talking to the guy who sets the prices. They announced... er.. far cheaper... honest! ;)

you are correct, there is a lot more in stock now, still more than half are stating Pre-Order, but yep a lot more in stock.

1070 has a lot of stock also.

It still does not look good though, as these were released a good while ago and there are still waiting lists of people waiting to get these cards. So whats the hold up? Not that it matters to me as i dont buy Nvidia products, but if i did i would be a bit irked to be sat waiting for a product like this, im quite impatient so would have bought something else.

My points still stand though, there is a bottleneck somewhere that is affecting the production of these cards, and i dont think its down to sheer demand.

Is it safe to assume the 1060 will cost about the same as the 480 - 230 to 250? I'm guessing so as it has a similar launce price to the 8gb 480 (249).

No because the Founders Edition is $299 which is most likely where the custom cards will be priced around like the gtx1080/1070. If you are lucky you will get a $250 crap blower edition for a similar price to a Rx480 crap blower Edition

I don't care which card or brand has better, for me and some others it may depend on if the 1060 AIB is worth the extra cost over the RX480 AIB. I can see past the people that are however clearly brand bias on these forums, childish and have such attitude.

I disagree with your perspective...
Nothing smug about holding people to account for their own recent posts or attitudes. The point in fact is that if the RX480 having around 970/980 performance is lambasted by some here recently and called a failure by them or the same such people making suggestions that older clearance Nvidia products was a better purchase at that time.

Then I question how is the 1060 any different if indeed it is in similar performance levels to the RX480 but possibly at even greater cost with less ram?

MSRP means very little regards Nvidia lately and especially currently with the UK so until Gibbo confirms the prices for the first batches then folk arguing like in the RX480 thread too are kinda wasting their time. If production numbers are low then expect more price gouging to happen.

I remember some stating that the 480 was a failure also and some of it was down to their own expectations and hype train being full throttle and some stating it was a failure as AMD hadn't brought anything for the higher end gamers, which in respect of those, I agree. Vega is rumored as Q1 2017 and for those looking for an AMD card that performs close to or faster then the 1080/70, there is no choice really.

The 480 as a card is a win though (albeit with a few hiccups) and a sweet card at a decent price point and hopefully it will be the same for the 1060. I am probably not the best to judge value for money but even at £250 for either of those cards, I see it is a decent gaming card and value for money.

The 480's cooler isn't the best but it did a decent enough job and the fan noise was more than acceptable to me. That was something I was expecting to be real loud and actually surprised it wasn't. @ 55% ish fan speed, temps were 85c, which is more than acceptable for noise and volume.

85C is a bit hot though hopefully this will be toned down a little as soon as the driver comes out today/tomorrow.

My biggest concern is the rumour that the 1060 has only 3+1 power phases, which just seems cheap and under-engineered to me. Another reason I think they don't want people to have this card for more than a couple of years too

I would still pay the extra £20 for the nitro when it arrives. It should be better in every way with no power problems. I know this is no 290x with a stock cooler but still there is a few things on the reference that would not sit well with me. I would not be bothered about the PCI-E problem but hitting the power limit's for overclocking would bother me some. My 290 can run under 70 0c so i would not want to have a smaller more power efficient chip sitting in the 80's. No more reference coolers for me although my 5770/6870 were not to bad.

NVidia always use cheap parts. Open up a Titan X and you will see cheap parts on the PCB and that is the way of it. A 3+1 phase will be fine for this card though and will do the job as intended.
