GTX 1060

All you 'crazy expensive GPU prices' defenders, enjoy your hobby as those ever increasing gpu prices pushes the consoles strength even further as the lead platform, leaving us with **** ports(in comparison to what theses games could really achieve) and next to no reason to jump on the PC platform as it's getting a way, way too expensive platform with little return now.
This is just total knee jerk drama queen reasoning here.

For one, you dont need to buy a £600 GPU to get into PC gaming, or to get something that is massively more powerful than what the consoles have. The real truth is that enthusiast PC gaming is getting cheaper and cheaper relative to what the consoles offer. A £150 RX 470 will outdo the PS4 by quite a bit still. And a £220 480/970 will basically be the difference between 1080p/30fps on console and 1080p/60fps with better settings on PC. And then of course we have £350 980Ti's available, which can do 1440p/60fps. So you're talking nonsense that PC gaming is getting more expensive.

The whole thing about PC getting bad ports as the norm is total exaggeration and frankly, complete BS. Consoles get poor versions of games just as much as PC gets 'poor ports' of games. The vast majority are just fine, though, minor niggles aside.

There is no comparison between consoles and a real desktop machine as far as I am concerned, so still happy to have my own and keep upgrading. However prices are getting higher, I was not really keen to pay for a 1080 for example, but I did after Brexit as it was obvious prices will only go up. Of course, one doesn't need that kind of card to still game, it's been said that most gamers play at 1080p, right? Those who use higher ones do need the power though

I hear you... but the price gulf is getting bigger and bigger everyday.

You can get a second hand PS4 for £150 now.
Try building a gaming rig for £150 including peripherals and monitor?...

We increasingly pay more and more for resolution increases at diminishing returns.

It's getting harder and harder to justify.

No, it's not.

And using best-case used prices is not a fair comparison.

I could sell my whole PC for £15 but that doesn't make it the actual value of it.

Truth is, you still have to shop around to even find a PS4 for £200 and most of the time you cant. You have to buy a bundle that, when game prices are included, makes the PS4 itself around £200.

And while this will always beat a gaming PC in terms of overall price, PC gaming is not getting more expensive relative to what you actually get. It is always getting cheaper and cheaper. Even the 1070, expensive as it is, provides performance that you had to pay £550+ for a year ago.

but I don't like a console and I've tried a few. It's just not for me. I am not saying this applies to others, that's just how I feel. These days I buy really good quality stuff and most of the time I don't regret it. For example the Rog monitor I bought a year and half ago is amazing. Well worth the crazy price. For gaming I am pushing 3840 x 2160. My poor GTX 970 struggled at time with that. I know some people say, what's the difference, but for the kind of stuff I am doing, I like to have a lot of real estate be it in games or for software development. There is a little bit o reason in my madness.

Other people don't need to buy a monitor worth over £600, or a GPU worth more than that, I do get value out of it so I bought them.

If I were to buy a low spec PC, that would be doable, not in the £150 range. I reckon about £500 for a relatively decent spec ( not just the cheapest stuff one can get ) which is more than enough for gaming at 1080. That's not exactly crazy money, is it?

plus a computer, you can upgrade, with a console you have to keep buying them, plus there is the cost of games which is much higher on console.

The cost of games is great for me atm on Console. Using a Rental service that lets me have unlimited games but on one at a time for £11 a month. This last week i have had over £100 in games and by the months end may have used along the lines of £200-300 if i can't find one i like. It's really good for SP games as once i am done with them that's me finished with them. With online games i will use it as a try as you buy kind of deal. Also got myself an Xim 4 that lets me use Keyboard and mouse in anything i want so my Ps4 is like a desktop in most senses for game playing. Still prefer my PC but this way i get the best of both worlds.

I found the 960 to be a very effective card albeit a little expensive. I had it playing some new titles running lovely on the one 50" 1080p telly box before I moved into mancave.

GTX260 = $279
GTX460 = $230
GTX560 = $199
GTX660 = $229
GTX760 = $249
GTX960 = $199

Average X60 launch price = ~$230

So the 1060 being $249 is hardly crazy.

$300 for the FE however...

Prices fluctuate as 'x60' or whatever is not a strictly defined role. It's just a tier and can be adjusted up or down in price and/or performance based on what is available and what the rest of the lineup looks like.
