Guild Wars 2

I never clicked with this when it first came out but I've played a lot over the past fortnight and am really enjoying it. Got an Elementalist to mid 40's, Thief to mid 50's, and Ranger and Warrior to mid 20's. Still can't decide which one I will go with which in my eyes is a good thing.

I'm sort of the same, I play it on/off get busy and drop it for something else, then I'll get the itch and pick it up again.. but thats why I picked up gw2 (and gw before it) in the first place, aside from possibly having to play a little "catch up" when you initially get back.. no sub no pressure

Long as you are having fun with it you might as well just level them all up, take advantage of the shared storage

Yep, that's what I am doing. I may look for a guild at some point as the people I used to run with are completely absent in the game.

Well, not impressed with Guild Wars 2 so far ... bought the Heroic Edition off the rainforest site and have installed it - all fairly quick.

However, I'm unable to create an account in order to log in and play the damn thing - I just get an error saying "Unable to register an account using the information provided. Please check your information and try again."

No indication of which form fields I'd filled in incorrectly, just a flat unhelpful error message ... might have expected that from a just-released game, but not one that's been around for a couple of years!

Nah, I'm using the 'create account' link displayed by the launcher after installing - can't remember the URL off hand, but it isn't the one you mentioned.

Google wasn't much help either - found one GW2 forum where someone had the same issue, but it doesn't say how he/she fixed it. I have logged a support ticket and had a reply (and NOT an automated one at that) ten minutes ago saying they'd escalated it to someone who could help.

I may yet have to eat my words!

EDIT: Actually, yes it is that URL - when I first click the link it goes to register.guildwars2.net, but it then forwards to register.arena.net

All sorted thanks to the support team - I was trying to register using the same email address as I used for GW1 back in the day. Never played that far into GW1, so they've got me to set up a completely new account for GW2 with the option of linking it later.

If the system still works from when GW2 launched, depending what you had on GW1 it gave you rewards in GW2 when you link your profiles.

Yeah, I may well do it later, but given that I didn't play too far into GW1 I didn't figure it was worth the aggro and I could just start GW2 with a clean slate.

Any suggestions for beginner-friendly professions? I normally play MMOs as a rogue/hunter type, but quite fancied trying a necromancer or mesmer, as they seem quite unique to GW2. I s'pose, conceptually at least, the necromancer is similar to a warlock in WoW ...

Guild Wars isn't a difficult game; pick a class you like the look of and roll with it. If your preference is rogue types then Ranger is a solo machine. Thief works, but is obviously more squishy and better suited to groups, but hella fun to play.

Necro's and Mesmers are cloth tanks but require a little practice to play well. Mes particularly so.

Easiest way to decide is what you want at end game. Mes and Thief are (currently, at least) group friendly, Ranger and Necro, less so.

Yeah, I'd read that Necro's aren't popular in PUGs - the site even went as far as describing them as 'selfish' ... a lack of group-wide buffs, if I remember rightly ...

I'm a terrible alt-aholic when it comes to MMOs anyway, so I'll probably start with a ranger or thief, as they're what I'm familiar with playstyle-wise

Yrah if you want dungeon runs don't go Nevro, I have a horrible time finding a group for places, especially on the harder runs like the Arah paths. People just want Guard/thief/Ele/war

I am still a little let down by the cost of the expansion :( It's the same price as the original game, is it going to be that big of an expansion?

Any idea of time to release?

Managed to get some game time in on Sunday and currently have a Necro at level 8 and a Ranger hard on the Necro's heels at level 7. Like them both, but currently swaying towards the ranger as, at the moment at least, it's levelling like a train. Gonna try a thief as well if I manage to get on tonight. At this stage at least, the game as a whole feels more simplistic than WoW in some ways, but that is no bad thing - one of the reasons I gave up WoW is because it became too intense and life-encroaching.

£28 for Heart of Thorns Pre-Purchase edition on Amazon.

Also, Anet are now including an extra character slot for people who already own GW2, and refunds for anyone who bought GW2 since Jan15.

Damnit - I wouldn't have qualified for a refund anyway having bought mine from Amazon, but I've missed out on an additional character slot by a matter of days ...
