My brother's been to a halal factory. For it to have any kind of reasonable production, the prayer was a just a tape played on a loudspeaker while they do the slaughtering.
Which most would say, does not qualify as halaal because they might have slaughtered 3-4 animals by the time the prayer on tape is even read once!
When we talk about halaal food, it is not only the manner in which the animal is killed. Keeping them locked up in cages all day, pumping them full of steriods/drugs and other nasty chemicals to fatten them up, is all totally and utterly haraam (forbidden) in Islam.
Animals should be treated with kindness and should be looked after. They should not be killed for pleasure or for sport. When they are killed and that is for the purpose of food, it is done by cutting the throat to drain the blood from the body while reciting a prayer.
Just because when you stun an animal and don't 'see' any blood, doesn't mean cutting the neck is inhumane, it's just the very sight of blood that some ppl find disturbing.
I would say it is almost impossible to find ANY halaal meat in the UK, because the animals are kept in conditions which are forbidden and then pumped with all sorts of chemicals which again is forbidden, all for the sake of profit ofcourse, and then they are slaughtered in a very questionable manner.
