Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

Surely this affects OCUK sales massively? I would have thought a lot of systems won't sell now due to lack of HDDs available? I've not seen price rises forcasted like this throughout my whole life of buying computer hardware. I mean I have seen ram rise and fall etc, but this looks set to be quite bad. I mean it is bad already. I wonder if anyone managed to bag a load of stock to ebay off in a months time at vast profit. I know I couldn't afford to. I bought 4 and they were all for friends builds I am about to do.

Prices would need to rise 120% if you were to make a profit from Ebay - once you factor in shipping, seller fees and paypal charges.:D

Will manufacturers keep a supply spare for processing returns/replacements if they fail under warranty? Where do we as customers stand if we bought say a 2TB last week and it fails in say 2 months time and they have no stock? Would there be a breach of contract there if they literally cannot supply a replacement? I'm just curious how it would work.

I suppose they could offer a refund?

Hard drives set to increase another 10-20% by the end of the week!!!!

Massive pricing on HDD now and re-buys are starting to come in at ridiculous costs :(

System sales will remain un-affected as we hold SI stock with a minimum of 3 months holding, so systems remain un-affected.

Also sales today, well we've sold more hard drives today than we did this time last week, so even though prices have doubled, sales are up considerably. :)

Well we gave the warnings days ago, I hope some took heed and did their storage buying, because now its gonna cost you double and soon to be triple.

Its the end of the world I tell thee, run to the hills! But honestly this is a little unsettling as I feel like I missed the last train somehow. My plans for a shiny new NAS are dead in the water so its time for a new letter to Santa.

You would think Western Digital would move their Thai plant somewhere with less risk to floods, 1/3 of Thailand is flooded and whats to say it will happen again.

Cheap labour out weighs this....
Well they have a plant in Malaysia, why not just increase capacity there, seems dumb to have such expensive machinery in flood central.

As I'm writing this, just noticed an article dating back to 2010, looks like they already are.

Western Digital to Invest $1.2 Billion in Malaysia

"Construction is planned to be completed by the third quarter of 2011 and the facility will be ramped to full capacity over the following five years," the statement said. " There will be up to 10,000 additional jobs."

Bought 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda XT's for £240 back in June, now they're that price each! Like a lot of others have mentioned "guess my NAS will have to wait!" :(

Think we will all be buying 2nd hand for some time to come then if prices are going up so fast!

I was checking distributors at work earlier, its shocking the amount either showing 0 stock or having less than 30 in stock. Prices have soared a silly amount as well. Laptop drives seem the worse affected, some prices almost doubling. Crazy times.
