Hazro 24" S-IPS, micro review + chat

Thanks mrk,

Thats what the little voice in my head was trying to tell me! :)

Will OCUK or Hazro actually swap the monitor for a brand new one? Has anyone confirmed this will happen?

Well it can only be either a swap or a firmware update - this has yet to be confirmed out of the box but since the warranty is 1st year a swapout would be the most logical solution because sending an engineer out to firmware update early adopters screens would not be cost effective if he/she has to go to 50 different parts of the UK and it would not be safe to get users opening up screens and doing it themselves too !

No other improvements to the screen? I mean while there fixing it they might as well add a few HDMI ports and higher gamut on 24" cos u know that stuff is easy ;)

I so much want one of thease 24 inch monitors, sorry if asked before i suppose i should go and have a look but what is the dead pixel policy on the Hazro monitors.

Send back to Overclockers or Hazro.

please do not say if less e.t.c pixels you have to put up with it.

Don't think anyone has come across any dead pixels yet? and if one does, then surely it can be fixed some how using some sort of software...

Right?

Right?
There was one chap who had a big cluster of dead pixels.
But he seems to be the only one in this and the other hazro thread that has mentioned dead pixels.
He couldnt fix them with the software either.

you could send it back to OCUK under the distance selling laws within 7 days for a refund or AFAIK if there are more than 5 dead book a replacement with Hazro

The faults are set to be fixed very soon so it's up to you whether you wait the next 5~ weeks or so for the revisions to be implemented or get a 24" / 26" now and then contact Hazro/OcUK for a swapout when the fix goes live.

The faults are not related to IQ or performance, they are more compatibility issues with Vista and MAC OS so you should be fine I would say if you get into the hang of manually powering it down on the front instead of relying on DPMS to kick in.

Personally if I were to be buying first time I would wait for the fix to be set in place just to save the hassle for both parties to arrange a time slot for a swapout and everything - saves headache and this way you will know you're getting a virtually 100% problem free panel after those of us who have one already have been labrats to the first revision :p
Is this Definatly a problem with the Hazro and not Vista ? Because Im having issues with my NEC 2045u CRT and Vista Ultimate.

Please let us know how you get on with it
Im eagerly awaiting the freindly knock of the city link man.
I really hope its ok as the missus offered to buy it for my birthday.

We`ll see :)

It happens in MAC OS too so not a Vista issue, it's the way the DPMS on the monitor interprets power state modes sent by Vista/MAC OS through DVI as it works fine in VGA and also fine on DVI using XP !

Well its arrived :)

Alls well in the dead pixel department, as there are none (which was one of my biggest concerns )

My first words to the missus when I un-packed it was " Its ***kin massive" My old screen is a 22" NEC Crt too. I wasnt`t expecting it to be so big. Just have to learn to move my head now when reading a page of text.

The DPMS issue is present. when vista goes to turn off the screen then it just sits there flickering. Its deffinatly the monitor with the problem as I also get the problem when I shut the machine down. The puter turns off but the monitor sits there flickering.

Overall I`m well pleased with the monitors color accuracy, veiwing angles etc. It goes to show how crap my old top of the range CRT had gotten

Good to know you like it! just get your name down now to be notified when the fix is available and all will be good :)

Sounds like it IS a Vista issue, xp shuts down the monitor properly...no flickering.
I've experienced the power flicker once in xp but i cant remember what i was doing before i left it alone long enough to enter sleep mode.

I took the plunge and bought a 24" today too. I was actually quite shocked, in that about 2 hours after I placed my order I got an e-mail saying it had shipped. On a bank holiday weekend. On a Saturday!

I was actually hoping to start trying out Vista soon, but it looks like that may have to wait if this monitor has issues. It seems like it's so hard to get a trouble free anything these days! I will just have to hope that when the time comes I won't have any troubles getting it replaced...

Here's to hoping I actually like the darn thing! Ideally I would have liked to have seen it before buying it, but that's not really possible :(

It'll likely arrive Tuesday or Wednesday I think. I'll let you know how I get on with it, and probably take a couple of pictures. Don't get too excited there though, camera isn't all that, and I am rubbish at taking photos :P

Where/how do I do this ?
There was no documentation at all that came with the monitor.
No VGA lead either.

Is this correct ?

It comes with a DVI lead and indeed no need for further documentation I'd have thought, just use the contact form on Hazro's website and all should be good :)

It seems like the DPMS issue is not Vista specific. I'm running XP Pro SP3, and if I set power management to turn off the monitor after a certain time, it will sit there flicking on and off :(

It goes in to DPMS mode properly when I turn off my computer, however. Or at least I think it does. The power light blinks on and off, but I don't see any backlight flicking on and off.

I guess this means I need to have it replaced at some point. I don't suppose anyone knows when is this issue going to be fixed? Perhaps I should e-mail Hazro, as they believe it to be Vista specific and it's obviously not?

I got a reply from Hazro tech this morning.......

With reference to your enquiry, please find the reply, outcome or solution below:

We are sorry to hear you have experienced issues with your Hazro monitor. Hazro are aware of the fact that on some Vista operated computers, the monitor may at times not enter DPMS mode. This information was relayed to all resellers last month who may, or may not have made you aware. We are currently working on replacing the AD Board controller wich will rectify the issue and this is expected in July. In the meantime, Hazro will consult Overclockers to determine the best cause of action and we endeavour to have a reply by tommorow [possible options are replacement/upgrade/refund. Please take note of the Hazro support reference number given above.

As for the scaling problems, the issue is that Hazro monitors will only scale to commonly used resolutions - a list is given below. If a resolution is not supported, Hazro will either scale up or down to the next one available. Once again, the new AD Board controller will support extra niche resolutions such as 1680x1050 and 1920x1154.

1 1920 x 1200 /60Hz
2 1920 x 1080 /60Hz
3 1600 x 1200 /60Hz
4 1280 x 1024 /60Hz
5 1280 x 768 /60Hz
6 1280 x 720 /60Hz
7 1024 x 768 /60Hz
8 800 x 600 /60Hz
9 640 x 480 /60Hz

I trust this answers your question. Should you have any other specific questions relating to the Hazro Professional range, please don't hesitate to get in touch via the online temporary contact form.

Yours sincerely,
Eugene Polinkski

So looks like we got to wait. 9 weeks at worst hopefully

niche resolutions such as 1680x1050
lol

My thoughts exactly,
but at least they are listening to people and adding this resolution to the fixed AD board.

Argh! 9 more weeks? The fix date keeps slipping.

So if I buy one now, will it end up costing me to get a replacement to fix the DPMS issues?
9 weeks wosrt, might be 4 weeks ? you never know

The DPMS is not a major issue. I set Vista to never turn off the monitor, and have a screen saver to come on after 10 mins instead.
Just get into the habbit of turning it off when you leave your PC. No biggy really.
