Hazro - Any Update?

Hi all,

I'm interested in the silver version of the 24", but I have one question, what is the component video input like? I'd mainly use this via DVI from my mac but also the Wii on Component so it'd be nice if component in isn't horrible.

I can get a few photos for you if you'd like for Wii + Component connection!

Btw I really like the scaler chip now, the quality of low res games such as World of Goo is splendid, so smooth even for the 800x600 image scaled!

I guess it's a combination of good scaler chip + good game coding too though :)

Here's a pic:

Edit*

Here's the Wii on 480p

I forgot to set the aspect ratio to pixel mapped 16:9 in the above 2

I found found one issue in that when you're viewing another input if you change the Scene type (from Standard to say Gamer) then the brightness/contrast settings change for other sources too. Don't know if this is meant to happen but in Standard mode in component source it looks fine so I just left it.

I think everytime you post pictures mrk, OcUK sells a couple more Hazro's

However I'm not one of them ;) But you sure do take damn appealing pictures :)

mrk

I`m glad you found a screen you achelly like, witch turn out to be a Hazro one. For me, its going to be ether the HZ24Wi 24" or preferibly because of the screen size, the HZ26Wi 26", but i'm just not sure which one is best for gaming and Blue-ray/HD viewing, and obvislly normal desktop usage like internet web surfing, etc

viennese - thanks for your reply, you don't think it can be turned off then? Also, does the wide gamut do it for you - yay or nay? :)

I didn't get any calibration tools with my one, but straight out of the box it was too bright to begin with. Colours were vivid and contrast was sharp so for me it's a big yay :) I will eventually calibrate it when I get around to purchasing some hardware.

After having the HP Wide gamut and not really liking wide gamut I don't think I could have the Hazro 26 or even 30" without a standard gamut model coming out!

Coming from a 9 year old 19" CRT where the colours were beginning to de-saturate and screen beginning to move around, I would take wide gamut but tbh I think I would struggle to notice a difference between standard and wide anyway with my aging eyes

Thanks guys - that really helps actually.

As I most likely won't be calibrating and just getting the gaming rolling, I'm sure it'll be just fine!

Loved those screenies from the Wii Mrk...looks really good! The action scenes don't show any sign of ghosting which is great!

Wish I'd bought it when it was around £450 ish on a 'this week only' OcUK!

n.b. (slightly off topic) was your Wii plugged in via component cables? I'm getting a Wii for xmas (via my g/f :D) and was wondering if there was any cable/advantage that would connect a Wii to the HDMI input on this screen?

I used a component cable I got for a few quid on eBay :)

you can play in 480i 60Hz or 480p - both look fine but obviously the p is sharper :)

Cheers for the photos mrk. Just what I was after, I'm currently running a Gateway FP2185w which has a great scaler, the hazro looks like a worthy replacement.

/checks wallet.

Does it have picture in picture mode?

See this is the problem with wide gamut, people don't understand what it means because it's been abused by marketing depts. It's a different colour standard, it's not just the same as NTSC with lots of extra colours added on. What i mean is, it will read an RGB value differently, and sometimes get it wrong, leaving you with saturated colours on some material, especially those which used strong colours in the first place - they'll just get unbeleivably strong with wide gamut. I wouldn't go near a wide gammut for until it's fully supported by the OS and apps, which is really unfortunate as i'd be all over the 26" version otherwise.

Well, you could always go for the 26" NEC with the SV option, that allows you to calibrate the monitor, not the os/apps and even though it's wide gamut you can get decent sRGB reproduction out of it.

Does it have picture in picture mode?

Only with video input in the little box iirc

Yes.
As with any PIP you need 2 sources. With the Hazro Composite video MUST be one of them.

ie. wii connected to Composite and PC connected to DVI. you can be playing the wii with the PC in the PIP box or visa versa.
or you can have a Wii on composite, PC1 on DVI, PC2 on VGA and switch between dvi/vga in the PIP box. But if you select PC1 or 2 as your main picture you can only have composite video input in the PIP box.

Hope that helps and doesn't confuse you :)
