Hazro - Any Update?

Yeh I got another phone call too :)

For those interested, they're going to give it another 24 hrs (as of monday morning) to try completely fix the sparking issue and any other issues, they think it is related to the graphics card as certain cards have no problem, others do, but the problem has certainly been reduced with shielding.

For those that try to use the S-Video port to display anything, it can be quite blurry due to it being scaled poorly (completely different scaling issue to the banding thing/dvi scaling), they might try to squeeze in a fix for it, but if not, for those who care they'll probably send out a piece of hardware to let you change the firmware on the monitor when its ready.

Everything else has been covered by previous posts.

ATM I have no problems with my current graphics card in terms of green sparks and I wasn't going to request the shielding upgrade. But some people are getting green sparks with the latest cards. In the future when I upgrade my gfx card I could run into problems. Shall I get the shielding done even though I don't have problem with green sparks now?

I noticed green snow on both ATI and nVidia cards with different cables so it can't be GFX card issue I'd have thought. look forward to the fixes anyway though.

Spoke to a well clued up geek from Hazro earlier - they've almost fixed the snow problem. Apparently, its an issue with ATi cards and the 4850 and x1950 in particular. Nothing to do with their cabling afterall. No problems with nVidia cards apparently. Something about frequencies, EMA or EMI??, magnetic bla bla....fell asleep during our convo. Lovely chap though. Not sure if I should be posting this but anyways, he talked me through a utility called powerstrip and 2mins of tweaking later, I aint noticed a single blink!! THEYVE GONE!!!! [i never really noticed em in the first place tbh]. But, he did warn how the program can seriously mess up the monitor if you don't know the values to tweak. I'd wait for the proper instructions - not risking my £400.

p.s. Hazro's support rocks!!!

So, is it safe (as in nothing wrong with it) to get a Harzo 24" from OcUK?
Yes. OCUK's entire stock of 24" are with Hazro, even though the store says OCUK has them in stock. None will be shipped out until Hazro returns the repaired monitors, which could be tomorrow or Wednesday.

I've got x2 EVGA GeForce 8800's in SLi and I get the green sparkles so it's certainly NOT specific to ATI GFX cards.

It's not consistent either. Sometimes it's not there at all, sometimes it's fairly bad.

Seems to me that they don't really know at all what's causing it. Hopefully they do by the time my screen gets sent back tomorrow

Got the same reply from nando12. Jez also said that other monitors (e.g. Dells, HPs e.t.c) have had similar problems and that it is frequency related specifically with ATI cards, and the 4850 and x1950 at that. He said that they output frequencies which are unnecessary for DVI so stripping them out and modifying the timings with PowerStrip will make it fine. Which worries me because I don't want to have to use PowerStrip for my monitor to work correctly if I upgrade my card.

The luminance will be reduced from around 330cd/m2 to 230cd/m2 out of the box with the lowered backlight, so quite a reduction in brightness (a welcomed one for the lower black levels).

With regards to white glow, the reduction in brightness should theoretically reduce the glow levels a fair amount but they are also dependent on other things. They said that other options can be tweaked to reduce the amount of glow, and calibration can certainly reduce it, so maybe there is a hidden service menu which they'll use to modify it?

He said about the revised version that it will most probably be released as a new product and therefore replacements or trade-ups won't be available, but it's being considered. Also, the new model will be larger since the power supply will be integrated (for backlight control via the firmware they've modified the setup, and cannot use an SMPS power supply).

All in all, I have no dead/stuck pixels and no green sparking (although I'm using an 8800GTS not an ATI) so I'm filling in the firmware upgrade form, as I think these problems should be solved when Hazro get their hands on my monitor! Although I'll be calling Overclockers tomorrow to make sure I can still return it if I'm still unhappy with it after the updates.

I also spoke to Jez today. He confirmed that the problem seems to be primarily with Radeon 4850's (which unfortunately I just upgraded to).

He also said that the 26" H-IPS panels are no longer being manufactured and so may not be available too much longer. He thinks that H-IPS technology has had it's day and so future screens from Hazro will probably utilize an alternate panel type.

As far as the sparking goes, they're gonna talk through some mods with each user once they have received their screens back, which hopefully should happen on Wednesday!

As an after thought I also had my screen hooked up to my office laptop, with onboard Intel graphics and the green sparkling/lines were there. Infact it was completely unusable using DVI.

To be honest, i'm a little concerned that Hazro appear to be forming an opinion that this is down to isolated GFX cards.

Interesting. The Hazro is out of date already.

For those who sent their screens back - where you given a link to track your parcel and how accurate was it?

The reason I ask is that mine was picked up last Wednesday (24th) by FedEx and when I track the parcel it says that its still in Belfast, which would indicate that it hasn't moved since it was collected.

I've e-mailed Hazro about the issue but any insight would be helpful. Cheers.

EDIT

Just checked again and it says that it was last tracked at 'Parkhouse Central Hub' - wherever that is!!

So much for next working day :mad:

I've not seen the green snow in a while now actually but I do have the Alternative DVI freq settings set to default:

Have a play with those.
It's worth noting though it's NOT ATI related specifically, I was the first to report the green snow I think and back then I had an nVidia card and thought I solved it by using a different DVI cable.

What gfx are you using btw go.mole?

I'm on a BFG 8800gts fyi.

I'm on a BFG 9800GTX and I get green snow, I get it consistently on dark images aswell. So DEFO not an ATI only issue, and as I said I put my card specs on the form I sent back, so they must have ignored that then :(

I don't want to have to install an app all the time to get my screen to work. As I want to watch HD TV on it and shockingly I can't install powerstrip on my Freesat box! (Though when I first got the screen I didn't notice any when using it with my set top box.)

I hope that doesn't effect the lack of input lag or ghosting; I really though H-IPS were the way forward; seemed like it took a leaf out of the TN panel displays (in terms of no ghosting and input lag reduction) in that regard and merged the technology with IPS.
