help with choosing smaller case

yes unless there is better
Depends what you define as better - weight, look, size?

If it's none of the above the 400Q should fit the bill (if you like it aesthetically) as you can add fans at the top of the case if you feel it needs it in the future for added cooling.

I do like the looks and specs, as long as everything fits I think it'll be the 1
You have tall memory - presuming 2 x 8Gb?

May be an issue - you can move the memory to different slots (may not be enough) and can raise the fan but we only have 5mm to play with.

Advise you do a bit of research - i'll do the same - meet back here ;)

is there anyway of finding out the height of the memory
You could reduce the size of your memory if needed.

From this article - clicky

Fresh out of the box, these sticks are 44.15mm tall from the top of the spreader to the base of the gold fingers. However, as seen here, there are two 2.5mm hex screws that allow users to remove the top section. By doing so, this set of DARK Pro then only stands 37mm in overall height, possibly enabling them to fit under some of the enormous air CPU cooling options out there.

so will I need to mod them if I get the d15
Possibly - hard to tell - click.

I have a guestimate but would like your thoughts after looking?

EDIT: I know of a very well informed chap who would probably know.

@doyll - could you advise if the D15 would fit above TEAM Dark Pro memory, without having to move the fan? (or by a fractional amount). It's to go into a Corsair 400q case (170mm max cooler height).

He has the option of taking off the top of his memory but would be preferable if he knew he didn't have to. Thanks.

looking at noctua site I don't think it'll fit my memory
I think it will be close too - but i've put in an alert for @doyll to take a look for you as he's the most clued up person i know on these forums regarding coolers (he's usually lurking most days like myself) - if anyone's going to know he will.

Hopefully he'll notice my alert and get back to you. He may have a better alternative off the top of his head too - if it doesn't fit.

I've found a site you list your parts and it'll tell you if there compatible with everything listed, according to the site everything is compatible

Excellent.

I would wait to see if doyll responds as it would be great to get a second opinion - but that would be great if it's the case.

I personally really like the 400Q and you would still retain the silent aspect of your build - doubly so if you swap to quality air at the same time.

Your 'downgrade' of sorts would turn out to be a win win.

I'll look out for @doyll tomorrow and try and catch him on an active thread as he may not have alerts on.

What's the link to that site that did the compatibility test?
