Hermes (now rebranded to EVRi)! Why are they so good?!

Retailer dragged their heels a bit insisting they needed to wait on the parcel to make it back to them and interally investigate, then copy paste reply emails every few days repeating the same. Finally got them to relent with a strongly worded email mentioning a chargeback and a replacement was despatched today.
My god, do they hire the mentally challenged as delivery drivers.

So they same driver who tried to deliver a clearly opened and empty package a few days before christmas was back today and delivered the replacement to the next door neighbour, dropped it over the garden gate. Then she knocks on our door and delivers the next door neighbours parcel to us.

crikey didn't know that, although I've only had deliveries from amazon drivers
Amazon tend to use whatever courier/delivery option they consider fastest/cheapest and has the capacity on any given day, so around my way that tends to be about 90% Amazon's own drivers, but for smaller/lighter items especially if they're busy (say during one of their sales) it might be RM.

Going back a few years before they had their own delivery drivers in large numbers I believe they used to use pretty much all the delivery companies, including in some cases those that only operate in relatively small areas but were close to one of their depots.

Actually now thinking about it, must have been ages ago but I did have some things delivered by dpd, and possibly some smaller items by royal mail

They did indeed I remember everyone from hermes to yodel to CityLink (remember them? Before they went bust? Had to visit one of their depots once to try and retrieve an xmas parcel and the room was piled up to the ceiling with amazon parcels)

Not surprised in the slightest tbh. Everyone orders from Amazon. I had a delivery the other day I was tracking, he'd pulled up outside and it said 7 deliveries before mine - which I thought was a bit weird. He literally posted a parcel to everyone of our neighbours first, normally with 7 to go you expect him to be a couple of miles away.

I can’t think of any area where Hermes are used by Amazon other than returns and sellers. Is it the low value none next day orders?
He noted "when he worked with hermes".

Amazon, as has been mentioned used to use pretty much every courier and delivery company at one point, IIRC they had contracts that gave them exceptionally good rates but only if they use the companies for a minimum number of items per day.
This is probably going back 10 years now, before Amazon basically started up what I suspect is the second biggest delivery company in the UK with Amazon Logistics because they worked out it was cheaper to cut out the middleman where possible (but still retain contracts with some of the other companies such as RM for smaller/lower value items, and others for unusually large/heavy items).

Yeah must have been 10 years ago but even then outside of returns or maybe marketplace sellers I can’t ever remember Amazon using Hermes that much. From when I worked along side Amazon.

18 months ago when I was a delivery manager for Hermes I’ve been away from Hermes 12 months last week

And yes up to 1/4 million parcels a day in the run up to Xmas 2021

They still use Hermes Evri as well as Royal Mail but I’m out of the loop so can’t comment on current volumes

Just over Xmas? Was it small none next day?

I personally never had issues with Hermes or Evri receiving or giving ;)

All during my time with Hermes (2years) there was a consistent volume of Amazon parcels but I do notice that Amazon have been heavily building out their own network the past 12 months

12 years of working along side Amazon specifically on Amazon Logistics and I did not realise that much stuff went to Hermes from Amazon themselves.

It had to be small none priority similar to the Royal Mail Tracked. Could be marketplace sellers buying through seller central. Can’t see it even being large heavy Hermes didn’t really like more than 30kg did they?

Hermes was generally 18kg max apart from large and light

And most of the stuff passing through my depots was Amazon packaging. Remember my main depot was across the road from
DXG1
