Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

Sometimes I'm wishing the whole world was even bigger. I'm starting to remember so many areas and not feel lost unless you go way high up in the hills. Besides that, those Hawk thingies... Whats with killing them, step out of sight of that area and run back and 4 of them are flying about. I'm not liking this endless respawning of the beasts once you've killed them.

Crazy the amount of Sawtooth's everywhere... Had a crazy battle with a giant chicken thing then a Sawtooth ran in. Nasty thing the Stalker.

Hopefully the PS5 can allow bigger worlds? I'd love worlds in these type of games that you'd get lost and forget areas. Even if areas were to be destroyed. Or the robots build new areas....

Hard point arrows really hurt the stalker if you aim for the weak spots, I'm gonna try that rock crusher mission tonight and see what is what.

But yeah I'd imagine it's hardware and cost limitations. All these games try to trick you as the world map looks massive. But put a way point down and it's much closer than you think.

How does this run on the standard Ps4? I know it's excellent on the PRO but I'm hoping performance is still more than acceptable on the original? I'd like to get the game but don't want it ruining by poor performance.

DigitalFoundry review of it sh ows its pretty much on par with the Pro performance. Frame time is pretty much perfect along with holding a stead 30 fps. I think it may drop to 28/29 FPS in a few places but not noticeable.

Quick tip: Be sure to buy an unlimited quick travel kit from the resources section from one of the vendors.

I didnt even notice this until now and im lvl 30. >_>

Do you really need to use fast travel? I've not used it yet and I've got loads of fast travel kits. I'm enjoying the scenery and finding quests too much.

But I'm guessing at much higher levels the world opens up a lot more?

Runs brilliantly. Framerate has been solid the whole time I've played it.

When you take on a machine with bow is it best to aim for any highlighted area? , I just thought these were parts you can knock off to salvage. Are these also the best areas to aim for when going for a kill?

Some weaknesses are behind armour plating which glow purple when you hit them. If you knock the plate off, you can do extra damage to those points.

Scan it and you can see what areas are weak and against what

Ok thanks, I normally scan machines but only seem to get the yellow canisters/weapons highlighted, may need to study them a bit closer. Saying that Ive only come across watchers, grazers, sawtooth's and scrappers.

Just a time saver, quite often you get quests the opposite side of the map, simply quick travelling to the location saves time. Also makes it easier collecting the collectibles.

Check your data section in menu. It will have a machine catalog of machines scanned, study each machine before battle, This is a must on the bigger prey. It let's you formulate a plan of attack before you jump in. :)

I just wish there was more game, I'm guessing we will get some dlc. More machines would be great.

Any of you higher level guys explored top right? Above that ruins? You can climb up the ridge, follow the path and it warms you are leaving game area and reloads last save.

Got to the point of no return last night and was told by a character that if I wish to finish off other things, now is the time. I love it when games do this. Decided to finish off some sidequests, and two remaining cauldrons for now. So far I'm at 51hrs played and still absolutely loving it. I do agree with VF - I wish the world was bigger as I want more, it's just a shame the ride has to end until a sequel hits.

Put the following in spoilers even though there is no story elements:

Found Cauldron Zeta when playing last night. Got in via the secret entrance (spending way to long finding it..) only to meet a Thunderjaw. Yeah I hightailed it out of there rather briskly! Not quite ready for that fight yet.

You'll be happy to know Cauldron XI is the easiest out of the lot! I was at the core in 5mins flat! I've got Zeta next I guess :o

From what I could tell Zeta is a straight route direct to the "boss". There was no side tracks or anything like that seen in earlier Cauldron's. I may be wrong of course as I saw the Thunderjaw and got the hell out of dodge.

:)

Good to know. I spent almost an hour on Rho trying to get to the core as I got stuck in the blaze processing section. Not a fan of the cauldrons as they seem too empty.

Just hit level 20 and reached Meridian. Still loving it, especially now there are more big machines around for things to feel properly epic. Love pulling a machine away from the herd, tying it down and overriding it to use as backup before the others arrive, or shooting off a heavy weapon from a distance then running underneath to grab it and use it against it's owner.
