HOW DO I BUILD MY PC NOW IVE BOUGHT ALL THE BITS?

it looks like you will find it hard to fit the 4 pin power connector to the motherboard, It could be the angle of the pic but there doesnt look like theres much room to get your hand in while the motherboards in the case

1 thing.... Fan connector, find the cpu fan/case/power fan connector - they should be around the CPU socket itself ... Dont stretch the cable that far, it's blocking your PCI-e slot (blue)

2nd thing ... Screw bottom right doesn't see right

3 power for the CPU and motherboard ... connect those up.

4 locate and understand the the front panel connector

what, on the MOBO, you mean? or somewhere else?
 
Just touch a radiator to get rid of static.

It's really not that hard. If you run into something your unsure of look at the mobo manual or failing that have a diff computer nearby and google the parts your having trouble with.
 
thats me for today - ive ignored my child for long enough! - im off tomorrow and thursday and will resume then unless i can get an hour in tonight - so can i just say thanks for all the input - overwhelming
 
Guys, can you leave the thread free for benenhausen's build? You're spoiling it in parts and not allowing us a clear run to enjoy the build and his enthusiasm. If you have any issues with each other can you take it elsewhere?

Way to go. As soon as you start trying to actually do the build you'll find out where the gaps in your understanding are... Luv'in the pictures. Just wish everyone would go to the bother you are going to!!! :cool:

The Noctua "vibrate compensators" are designed for mounting the fan to a case not the Thermalright heatsink (which just uses the clips). You fit all 4 rubber dampers through the 4 holes round a fan blowhole and then through the 4 holes on the fan itself.

You really need to buy a couple of front fans at some point. Anyone telling you otherwise... Don't forget you are fitting a high end GPU and powerful quadcore CPU in that case. These will both dump loads of heat and will benefit from some extra cool air intake capacity. You certainly won't regret my advice in high summer... Noctua fans are nice - don't use them myself though.

You definitely want the CPU heatsink aligned so that airflow goes from the front to back of the case... Otherwise the intake air for the CPU is coming off the top of the GPU = hot air = not good!!

You want the case fan drawing air away from the CPU (which it will do 99% of cases) and you can fit "push" fan to other side of the heatsink (directly in contact) but this will do a lot less work than the case fan. Slow fans are ineffective at pushing air into radiators and heatsinks. They are betting at drawing (or pulling) the air out. In addition to this effect there is also a dead spot in the outflow of air from a fan due to the central hub where the motor/axle is housed. Generally I try to use spacers for these (but thats getting a bit advanced now!!)

A front case fan would help to create a straight flow through the rig through the CPU heatsink and out through the case fan at the back. I would recommend not bothering to install any fans on the CPU heatsink. Move that Noctua fan to one of the upper fan hole at the front of the case. Then you can use your "vibrate compensators" to mount it!! Did something similar with a build for my flatmate. :)

Yea I apologise I should learn not to get so worked up over idiots.

Anyway... dont know how you can leave it lying there till tomorrow id be too excited lol

lol - yeah thing is have a 7 month old boy who has been very patient today so ive had to put the build on hold - my wicked plan is to get another couple of hours in later and i shall bribe his mother with a chinese takeaway if she lets me get on with it!!!!!
 
There is just no way I could leave that sitting there overnight. You know you're still going to be sitting there at 2am, don't you? :)
 
okay - build 1 - day 2 !!!

ive replaced the flat hex screws in the mobo with all the round insulated ones as suggested.

im now trying to work out what the 4 pin power connector is that im being told i may have trouble fitting
 
Supplies power to the CPU area of the mobo. You'll see the connector to the top left of your CPU, tucked in behind the CPU cooler now. :)

Off to work, will look forward to seeing how you've got on.
 
ok - i see the slot that the connector needs to go into - the slot is currently a block of 8 holes but 4 of the holes are covered by a black plastic cover - i think i need to remove this cover to make way for the cable i have found(came with PSU and marked P4MB) which i believe is the cable that goes into this '8' hole slot - picture of the slot below

as you can see ive added the hard drive and the blu ray drive

so from looking at the picture do i need to remove this cover?
and do i have the right 8 pin cable ?
