msn..

try this (found it on the ms forum)

Hi guys,

After checking my firewall settings, the following helped me get rid of this error on my vista premium home edition:

Step1:> login as administrator
step2:> start->cmd -> right click->run as administrator.
step3:> type this and press enter : C:\Windows\system32>netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
* this step takes some time.
step4:> Restart msn.

dunno if it works

i use pidgin instead of messenger, about 5% of the bloat :)

i think he's assuming you have the vista start menu..

if you type cmd into where it says "start search" you should get 1 result appear in the list. right click it and run as admin.

ok - ive quickly realised that i cant play games using just the keyboard and mouse - whats my best option here?

If you're talking aboiut first person shooters - give it a chance, try it for a while as there is no better way of playing that type of game once you get used to the control method. The very first 'first person shooters' were designed with mouse and keyboard controls in mind. (You could try inverting the y-axis.)

If you still hate it - just hook up your console pad through the right adapter.

thanks - ill persevere

also need a decent speaker set up for this mean machine - any recommendations? want it to play my blu rays at a decent standard - but bear in mind small room

this messenger thing is driving me insane!!!!!

i exited out of messenger so that it was no longer in the toolbar(?) on the bottom right of the desktop.

i then search for it using the tool in the start menu - its not there.

i then try and d/load messenger from windows site and it tells me i have messenger already installed......

.....where the ******* hell is it - aaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A bit over your budget but good speakers for the money - link And more than suitable for a small room viewing/sound.

I've presumed you want a 5.1 system?

I use Altec Lansing speakers - they're very funky and great quality. I mention this as if you only need a 2.1 system it would be in your price bracket.

Try a post in the sound forum - you'll probably get more informed responses.

looks nice and good reviews too - i wanted 5.1 yes but was thinking it might be more suitable for larger rooms - you think otherwise it seems - i have 2 1210 turntables in the same room im going to be wiring up to a mixer at a later date, i wonder if they can run off the same speakers? or maybe i can steal 2 of the 4 surround speakers for the turntables and leave the other two for the pc/blu ray player?!
