How do you get rid of acne?

I had quite bad spots, until at age 16 the docter game me some tablets (im recalling the word 'Roaccutane', although no idea if this is correct or not!) which reduced grease. They worked but after a while make my nose and lips sore as they stop grease all over the body not just the face. After I stopped taking them the grease returned but no spots, magic.
I ate a bit of junk food but not that much, and would wash face at the very least twice a day. hope this helps:)

Splash naplam all over your face...i heard it works absolute wonders:p.

Seriously..stop eating sugary foods...drink plenty of water and dont pick the spots as hard as it may be. Also use anti bacteria soap....helps clear up the pores...clearasil is another one to try and use.

Forget the 'dont eat crap' it might be a factor - but only a tiny one.

I had bad skin since I was about 14-15.. went to the doctors when I was about 18 and was prescribed with Oxytetracycline, didn't work too well and just put up with the bad skin (face chest n back) - about 2 months ago I went to the doctors down here cus it was starting to get to me, got prescribed Lymecycline - works v.well, my face is spotless, and my back and chest are slightly marked, but not getting any new spots. They prescribed me with a cream called Duac too, takes away the top layer of skin from what I can notice, reduces red marks pretty well.

I can safely say having sorted out my bad skin on my face it's boosted my confidence a lot, feel a lot more relaxed now about going out :)

Patience, I've used about 4 different medicines, and about 5 different creams all to no avail, they were all prescribed.

All the clearasil/oxy/witch crap doesn't work. Just wait it out, I've had acne for 5 years now.

I was in the same position as you, kept going back to the docs.

The stuff I'm on now is finally working, Lymecycline. The next step was Roacutane (sp?) - which highly reduces the production of oils on ** skin - it will work but you need blood tests now and then, plus ** skin drys up!

TO ALL THE PEOPLE SAYING STOP EATING SUGARY FOOD - It's a lie, go ask a doctor and they'll tell you there is no link.

What you need is two things:
1. to eat heathily - this can and will have an effect on your skin
2. A retinoid. You can either buy a moisturiser with retinol built in like retin-A or ystheal or the doctor can prescribe a slightly more concentrated version. Retinol is clinically tested and has few side-effects (either you'll be sensitive to it, in which case your face will go red and you'll need to stop using it or it'll work wonders).

If you're inclined to do so, put "Bacne", that's "Bacne" into "Youtube" and sit back and don't dare complain about a little pimple again!

Any advice?

I didn't have much acne but the stuff the doctors gave me worked wonders and it's noticeable relatively quick too, I forget what it's called but it's most likely some of the stuff already mentioned. I stopped using it a while ago, started drinking more water as I think that was the cause of it in the first place(1 or 0 glasses of water a day ain't recommended I here :/) I just using Clean &clear or clearisl now and while one or 2 spots pop up it's still way less then before

Acne is caused by many other factors other than the typical claims of "unclean skin", and "diet".

It can be hereditory, caused by hormonal changes (puberty), stress, and hyperactive sebacious glands, amongst others.

my brothers had severe cystic acne, and had to go on roaccutane, it has very bad side effects, leathery skin, chapped lips - they came off this medication about 3-4 years ago mind and still have problems now! Plus it is known to cause side effects of depression and stuff. I really didnt wanna go onto something like that. I've had tetracycline 400, erythromcyin, oxy-something and another one i used when I was about 10 and I cant remember the name of, I give up :p I'll just wait.

Well if you ever decide to go for something else, ask your doc about Lymecycline. Think it's the strongest available b4 you go to Roaccutane - no side effects either - and it's only 1 a day unlike oxy-tetracycline / tetracycline which are 2 a day.

Give it a go :) What do you have to lose?

Go and see a doctor ffs.

It could be due to anything.

Very much so. Though most over the counter remedies do sort of work, medications are often better (though most aren't necessarily that nice for your liver).

Most people out grow acne as well. In my case I was found to be having rashes as well as acne, and the worst of it was due to an evolving allergy to chocolate and banana. Hence I can't eat any of those two things now.

Yes forget the people saying stop eating junk food. Although apparently going on a detox for a while can help. I remember reading about this and people getting great results it was on some health boards, just do some google searching.

By detox I mean getting rid of the crap in your body and allowing your skin to heal properly, something along those lines.
