How many DINKs here?

By all means feel free to quote a single one of my posts where I have done so
All that talking about missing out on the positives. You know, the ones we were just discussing... That and the people on about "excuses" for not having kids - Some people just don't want them and don't share the idea that kids are in any way a positive thing to have.

That was me about being on the fence.

I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse as a guy. Technically the biological clock is a lot longer. But not having that dead line could easily mean just leaving it and leaving it.

I suppose the only plus in your position is, if you're partner does get to 40 and still doesn't want them. You'll know its unlikely to happen, but you still can. However would have to be with someone else.

Its hard not being able to try before committing. And yeah, I don't envy your on the fence position.
Spot on, this is precisely my dilemma. Immediate plan is to finish the house move and see how we like living just the 2 of us and outside of our home town. If that's working out then we/I can consider the long term plans.

My Dad used to joke that if he didn't have two kids he would have had two Ferrari's. I thought he was joking until I had kids. In day care fees alone would have got me decent one

So for those not having kids you can look forward to owning his and hers supercars at least

By time we move should be closer enough to my gfs biological clock time that she should know. I don't see her changing her mind on that one though. She's very environmental and would make a bad parent like myself.

People call me selfish for not wanting children. Don’t like them, No hope for them.

Just say i can’t have them. That ends the conversation.

I'm quite happy with life and being a DINK, just enjoying the ride. There are plenty of things to enjoy, I appreciate nature more these days and there are some stunning places on this planet. Someone mentioned Samaria Gorge, its worth being alive just for places like that.

I'm quite nihilistic and it seems irrelevant whether someone has children or not, this planet is all we have, just enjoy it however you want as long you don't infringe on others happiness.

Like I said, feel free to quote any of my posts where I "try to sell" having kids or even vaguely imply it's unacceptable not to have them

Dual income no kids.... Incase anyone was having 'Nam flashbacks.

I'm not foreseeing having children. It's not planned.
I might regret it, I might not. Guess I'll find out
If there's a happy accident then fair enough.
Why, I'm not 100% sure, I'm not ready and rapidly getting older, no one's ever ready cliché.

I've seen arguments along the lines of it being one the most selfish things you can do, to deny future kids from existence (wtf?)

Obviously a very, very devise topic as people usually defecate the bed when it comes to stuff like this.

Maybe a poll?

If in a long term partnership/ married ...

Having kids ASAP
Not too bothered
No way
No way (give reason) weirder ecological doomsday are best.
Pancake

Please don't have kids

31 this month and very single. It was always something I sorta planned because it was the 'done thing'. Now, I don't give it much thought because before I can think about it, I should probably be dating someone I can see a future with, right?

With all that said, would you want to bring someone into this world and country right now and them have to live in it? Nah, it's ******* *****.

Also, on a selfish level, I simply like doing what I like doing...

Only time will tell.
Both are a core life choice. To have or not have kids.

Its life defining.

I wish people would stop saying "you'll regret it when you're older".
Some will, some won't.

Its great we have the choice. More so than ever, the pressure is subsiding on women to "have kids, have a family.. Because... You should".
For women its not society telling them "because you should", its genetics.

See this is my dilemma. I do genuinely worry if I'm going to regret it later in life, but then I also look at the state of humanity and the planet and wonder if I do actually want to bring kids in to this world. The answer is a resounding no, but my primal instincts are telling me to keep porking as the clock is ticking.

Dunno, it's a tough call and one that I could live to regret, but I justify it with copious amounts of touring, holidays, fancy toys and partying instead.
State of humanity has not changed for thousands of years, only your perception of it is different.
Do you?
I must have missed that meeting... but I'm glad to know that people who have not even hit 40 themselevs are around to tell those in their mid-50s how things are. Meanwhile, my in-laws are in their mid-70s and still finding a plethora of things to go see and do.

Excuses for what? Is having children a requirement?
The majority of parents I've spoken to have said they love their kids, but if they got the chance to change it they'd have stayed without and done more to enjoy their lives.

When you come up with excuses it is to convince yourself, not me, that it is the correct choice, this is a function of the mind.

I do not require any excuses to do anything, there is no need to develop various ideas to support my choices. A choice i have made is wrong, i knew it was wrong, yet i feel absolutely nothing, no regret, no hesitation, nothing.

I've always seen you as a teenager in my mind :p obviously not as you speak with conviction and I guess family experience.
You must be in your 40s is 87 is your year in username choice.
What gives you the drive to need children?
Religious background? Small community?
Traditional parents? Extended family?

My grandparents were all dead by the time I was 16. This has probably had a profound effect on me regarding having my own family
I never see my cousin's either.

This is turning into a self help session.

I don't want children or family, relationships or friends or pets.

I think many of you might have assumed the wrong thing from my post.

It does not fit, to not want to have children, while being in a long term relationship, having a pet, friends and so on.
