Sure I had one done on my first ST.. bought the driveshaft off ebay from a breaker and I think the whole thing was around £3-400 all in.

If the driveshaft is the bit where the car in in gear, revving and going nowhere? Its definitely did that to me.

not long after the turbo developed an issue and before the oil leak started and air con broke.

Must admit my first one was a bit of a lemon although it did take a kicking.. my second was much better.

How much did the driveshafts cost if u don't mind me asking  did u get both replaced? Looking around on Ford Forums people seem to pay between £700-1k depending on where they take it to which is shocking for new driveshafts which are a common frailty on the ST

Most people get Ford reconditioned ones as they are much cheaper. I think Eurocarparts does reconditioned ones for a very decent price (£175 a side or something) if you send yours back to them sort of thing.

Dreamscience recently started doing OEM shafts for £530 for the pair, £265 per side:

I managed to get a bit of a discount, just the 1 reconditioned Ford unit was £170, plus £20 fitting.

I have read somewhere that the VM ones from ECP are Ford shafts without the branding! You can get these for £200ish on CP4L.

Brand new genuine Ford are £650ish each.

Mine's juddering quite severely under breaking. Was worried it's the drive shafts but I got the CV boots done recently and was told they're fine.

So now i'm thinking there's a balance issue somewhere, possibly a dodgy disk or misalignment.

Sounds like a bad disc, out of interest do you know what brand of disc it is? When I was getting my discs changed I was told to stick to motorcraft and nothing else, as warping was a major issue on the other branded discs.

The OEM disks and pads were quite good on the mk2, not sure about the mk3. People even used the mk2's OEM disks on track.

Always run standard discs on my mk2.5, with Ferodo DS2500 pads.

Every time I enquire at my favourite ST specialist about a set of AP's they talk me out of spending the money with them, which says something!

Just about to join the Focus ST fold.

Trading in my RS Clio EDC 200t for a new Focus ST3 in Race red with optional black style pack. Managed to drop on a cancelled order in the compound in Holland. So hopefully should not be too long (dealer says around 3 weeks). Pretty much all options bar the sun roof.

Went via CARWOW and amazingly (considering where I live ... back of beyond) one of the best quotes was from a dealer only 40 miles away. Thought the stumbling block would be the PX on the RS Clio (2 years old with 20k). But the dealer beat WBAC by a decent margin. Plus threw in paint protection system for nowt.

Could have got a slightly bigger discount (but only just) if I had been willing to consider a 400 mile + round journey. But decided the convenience of a local dealer paid out.

I've enjoyed the RS Clio (especially nice in the Liquid yellow paint). Even the gearbox (especially after last years dealer re-map) is pretty decent (at least in manual sport/race mode). But the normal auto I find far to laid back and uninvolving and a bit frustrating at times. Some of my issues have been addressed in the Trophy edition, but not all. So time for a change. Plus a slightly bigger car will come in handy at times.

Fun times ahead me thinks.

What sort of trade in price were you getting on the Clio? Was at my local Ford dealership a couple days ago and noticed one there for 10k. Had to double take the car to check it was actually a Clio RS...

Weren't tempted to sell privately on that sort of marque?

Currently on the waiting list for the mp275 kit. I've been told it's going to be 3-4 weeks, as long as it's done before I go to Wales in June I don't mind.
Only an extra £40 a year on the insurance as well.

Don't mind saying. It was £10.8k and mine did not have the cup pack (ie. Black bigger wheels and red calipers) or the RS monitor. So not as attractive as some. Cant complain really, as I had already got a massive discount when I bought the Clio, as it was a Renault x-management car (3 months old when I bought it).

Selling private not really an option round here. Small rural community and an even smaller 2nd hand car market.

I'd already checked both CAP and Glass's guide, which I have access to. So I know that it was very much at the top end for a PX.

Could have got a bigger discount with drive the deal, but you can't PX this way. And not really an option to live round here without a car. Some 5 + mile round trip for even a newspaper or a pint of milk (unlite roads and no pavements etc.).

I just think the current RS Clio has been maybe a bit unfairly tarnished etc. Via reviews and comments on the whole from folks that have never sat in one, let alone driven one. Fair enough I appreciate that some won't like the way Renault are going with the Clio. But bit by bit, I think they are starting to sort the car out. Unluckily the getrag edc gearbox was maybe with hind sight not the best starting point. There you go, an owner being honest about the car.

Cant wait for the ST to turn up.

Not got a clue, they were running a bit low when I last did the pads but looked like they'd make it through another set.

It's going up onto the stands tomorrow and all the wheels, pads and discs will be coming off. Can't be doing with this, it's unsettling the car quite signifcantly.

Anyone got a picture of the current ST in red with the optional black wheels? Cant seem to find one on the internet anywhere.

Ta...

I can get you a pic of mine with the grey wheels if that helps? Personally I think the black wheels look gash, but that's just my opinion and I don't like black wheels regardless ;)

Posted this in the "What have you done to your car today" thread but thought my fellow ST owners could share in my pain, or have a giggle, whichever way inclined you are.

Parking sensors + towbar (on the car behind me) = :(

Ouch! I actually used to rely on my focus sensors until recently when I reversed into a space at work and the barrier behind me had a section in the middle that curved so my sensor didn't pick it up properly. as got out somehow my bumper was sat nicely inside the barrier, thankfully I drove in slowly and there wasn't even a mark but it was a lesson learned! I sometimes think you naturally rely on them without using judgement at times.

For what it's worth, it was the inner tie rod wearing down.

Gonna have a go at replacing it with a friend in a couple of weeks time.
