How many Focus ST owners on here

Hello guys
What sort of MPG would I expect from a 30 mile round trip commute around 80% of it on motorway? I am guessing 26/27? I'm guessing there's no such thing as an economy map :D
Looking at one for my "first" car (second one I will be driving) as I will do relatively low miles and insurance isn't coming out too ridiculous. Will ~£5.5-6k pick up an OK one or a dog? Ideally one with climate so maybe post facelift but looks like most are pre
You have picked the wrong time to be looking for a ST225 the prices since Christmas time have been ridiculous they seem to have been included in the 10% used petrol price increase since the diesel fall out. I sold my 2006 for 4.2k 18 months ago which was the going rate at the time but having been looking for another since Christmas and the fact nobody seems to sell private anymore they are constantly listed between 4.5k to 6k for a 11-12 year old example  and the facelift 2008 will set you back 6.5k-7k which is ridiculous for a 10yr old Focus. I’m a Ford Fanboy but even I can’t bare to part with that much cash considering how crap the interior is and the possibility of expensive faults occurring. Especially when the new Fiesta ST can be had from 8k now on a 13 plate private.
Sadly anything with an interesting engine are steadily rising in price lately instead of depreciating.

This is a problem for all petrols for me unfortunately, no matter when I bought I would have bought a petrol for the mileage I will be doing (~7-8k a year) but for the budget theres nothing else really. Lexus IS250, something for when I'm 29 not 19, Clio RS 200 which has cheese gearbox, civic type R is stupid insurance levels, VAG only have the 1.8T with the amount of power I would like but they have oil issues apart from golf GTI but that I will get an even older example... the list goes on. It's just a problem I'll have to deal with unfortunately

Yeh it’s tough trying to find a good hot hatch given the rising prices at the minute. I had a Mondeo St220 before my Focus ST and currently have another one. It offers better value for money than the Focus and is nicer to drive with practically the same performance. Might be worth a look. Would also consider a Mazda 3 Mps, or Leon FR/Cupra for your budget. Although the Focus is the best all round choice from that gen of hot hatches if you can stomach the prices that they are currently going for.

Yeah so I need an rs clutch now. Clutch is slipping in higher gears more 4th and 6th mid range.

Also recently my boost in 3rd/4th used to go to 1.2 and hold. Today it only went to 3/4 but 5th and 6th would be at 1.2 and hold. Also seems to not have that shove as strong as before so I guess the recirc valve is on its way out or maf/map but it was somewhat ok this evening.

I also think with the amount of hard bangs it gives on gear changes the cat won't last long so clutch/downpipe/sportscat with updated recirc valve is next.

I've read plenty of stories of people with blocked cats, more so through deliberate popping and banging though.

I had a stage 1 map put on my FST and it only took a matter of 2-3 weeks before the cluthc slip started and that was driving sympathetically too.

I do think it's a blocked cat more so then recirc issue as it's holding boost. Every gear change at high rpm it bangs hard. So I wouldn't be surprised.

Still I've driven with sympathy but the clutch is definitely going. So it will be an expensive month once again :o

Specs? Pics? Any work been done to it?

It's got a relatively tame Collins Stage 1 setup and a Quaife LSD, otherwise pretty bog standard :)

Terrible drive home photo;

Guessing rs clutch/flywheel if they've done the lsd? How are you finding it? They're quite brilliant no?

I've booked mine in with ds in may for rs clutch/flywheel upgrade. Hope it lasts until then as with pod next month I bet It won't last any longer.

That looks lovely. Is it an ST3? What's the mileage? It looks very tidy.

94k miles iirc, and it's a ST3 :)

Yep RS clutch & flywheel also.

The engine really is a sweet setup, reminds me of a friends old (10 years ago at least) Bravo HGT (2.0 20v 5 pot) but with the turbo as well :) Immature side loves the occasional pops on lift off. Seats really comfortable too, drove 4 hours home in it yesterday and didn't have to crawl out afterwards.

It feels quite wallowy handling wise at the moment but then I'm coming from the S2000 so most things would feel soft by comparison. LSD seems to make the car want to torque steer more than it would otherwise also.

On the plus side, insurance without using any no claims on the Focus is cheaper than insurance with one lot of my 10 years ncb on the S2000.... insane really.

Set of eibach springs can help with the handling - just drops the car 20-30mm without getting too extreme or ruining the ride quality. Lot of cars already had this done but yours looks to be on standard springs from the photos?

If the standard dampers are getting tired now the bilstein B8's are a good upgrade, they also do a kit that comprises the eibach springs plus B8 dampers - again these work really well but not at the extent of making the ride too harsh or uncomfortable :)
