How many Focus ST owners on here

All these people getting egged on by other drivers for owning an ST is why I'm glad I have the Volvo S40 T5 :)

Same Volvo engine, same chassis, 80% the same car with loads more toys and nobody tries to race you because well, it's a Volvo :)

Must admit I did want an ST but the Volvo was a third of the price and less miles for essentially the same car.

Most people don't know what my car is, I have grown to like that. But a moment of weakness 18 months ago I bought this from DVLA, in 2 minds about putting it on the car now.

Strange not changing the water pump when doing the timing belt, it’ll be another 100k before you are likely to strip down the car that far down again so most people would just do it together.
Agreed, while your in there might as well do it just for peace of mind. Doing the A/C and Alternator belts are a must too.

Volvo pumps never get replaced as they never fail. My old T4 had the best part of 200k on it and it never got replaced. It's not even on the service schedule.

Same with the T5 engine so don't worry, you would have just wasted your money had you replaced it.

Did it 3 weeks ago :p

Like I said, might as well since you have half the car open !

What! you paid for a private plate and never put it on the car? Get it on. Anyone who is remotely into cars knows what a T5 is. I have a habit of looking at the back of Volvo’s to see what model it is :p most of the time they have the R design body kit on but something like a 1.6 engine in. It’s the estates you have to watch out for they always seem to have the good engines in like the T5/D5 and tend to get modded quite abit.
I need to scratch my Volvo itch one day. I gave up trying to find a T5 S40 before getting my previous ST. The C30 is growing on me more though i seen a nice white one the other day.

I thought I'd give small update. Unfortunately on the way I had a stone hit the wind shield, thought nothing of it as I couldn't see a mark. Cue when they had to remove the scuttle panel a crack was there. Which they noticed before hand and told me about. Removing the scuttle panel made the crack form. It's a pilkington windscreen so it has been changed at some point in the cars life as I'm aware the originals say ford.

Bit annoyed by this but its not that bad and I'll get it replaced through insurance at some point.

On to parts it was a no brainer to do the waterpump at the same time. Some parts were Volvo like headgasket and others ford.

The exhaust I got is non res. Big mistake as it's just far to loud, a mistake on my part as they did warn me but I wasn't bothered. I can see it annoying the Mrs as it does drone on lift off and cruise. I'll probably get a res fitted at some point. Sounds great and burbles pops etc a lot. Again, the drone is too much for my liking.

On to the map. In all honesty from the little play I did give the car bloody hell it's fast. 3krpm forward it just flies. It slipped once at 3.5k at 6th gear full foot down. Didn't do it again. Though if you ease it then press on its much better. The torque is just crazy. Really reminds me of my diesel Leon I had the way it just pulls but with so much shove.

The guys at ds are very decent chaps and made me feel welcomed. The downside was the wait but it was to be expected. Also mpg is up which is a bonus. I really think in standard form my car was very very flat.

They did a health check and said the thermo has a slight leak but it's not bad. Obviously the windscreen has the crack now. Everything else is in good shape and I'm very glad as i was worried I had bought a shed.

I do too, saw a V40 T5 today, 66 plate, except I thought they stopped making the 5 Cyl engine so I just looked it up and it's 4 Cyl, they are just using the name now !

I will put it on, one day :p

Yeh Volvo have really diluted the range on the new models. There seems to be D or T2,3,4 and 5. Even the pathetic T2 that has something like 130bhp has twin exhausts given the current trend of making cars look fast when they are not :(. It’s also silly keeping the T5 when it’s a 4cyl and not a 5 pot which it was always known for.
I got left way behind on the motorway a few weeks ago by an old guy in his Volvo estate who looked like he had just been for a round of Golf. Seemed to floor it as I went for the overtake on the motorway lol. It’s always old guys in big old Volvo’s and Saab’s that love surprising people on the motorway as nobody ever expects them to be fast. Hence the reason I check the rear for a badge lol.

Exactly, and if I put the plate on, it'll give the game away (sooner) :p

Sorry to hear about the windscreen, that is annoying but like you say insurance should sort it out for you hopefully without to much hassle.

The torque is quite incredible isn't it :D you really feel a shove in the back when you floor it.

The exhaust might get a little better as it gets soot build up after some use but if it's really bad then probably not.

Maybe it will quiet down but I am on the side of doubt for it. Yeah the torque is good, it's pretty mental how fast the Speedo climbs. It makes me wonder how fast the 320/340bhp cars are if I think this is quick.

Wasn't Tim Williams was it? ;) He's got a fire breathing white 850 T5 pushing 450BHP/600Nm, he pops over to the Nurburgring every year with a few of the other Volvo chaps with highly modified cars. Would have thought most you ST chaps would have heard him, he's known for block mods/high power builds.

I have heard of Tim Williams he's based down Leicester way. Guys with st do use him for block mods.

Yea he was in Cosby last time I visited him. Miss my S60 T5, even though it was a pain. Just a simple remap saw 323BHP :D
We had a right time when a supplier sent the wrong flywheel and Tim fitted it, and he spent ages trying to figure out what was wrong before we discovered the wrong part. He was kind enough to change it again for the right part at a reduced rate. Went for Don Kalmar lightened flywheel in the end which was kind of a bad move.

Getting quite a bit done on mine next week, cambelt and water pump change (pretty early miles wise, but it's getting up there for age), gearbox oil (I've never changed it, and I doubt it was changed before I bought it 3 years ago), new brake lines and fluid (again, I've never had it changed since I got it), need downpipe sensor changed because I'm currently running in limp mode, needs a new radiator again as mines got a small leak, and have got some powerflex bushes to go on the gearbox and engine mounts.
