** HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook @ £314.99 inc VAT **

I have the sim slot too...interesting stuff but not bothered too much as I can wifi tether Vodafone 3G from my Android.

More importantly, I see HP do up to 9 cell batteries for other notebooks but I cannot find a PT06 compatible battery other than the normal 6 cell.

An upgrade 8 or 9 cell would have given a few more hours of juice!

Is the SIM slot for HSDPA/3G? If so, do they all come with them? It's not in the specs!

Was looking at getting a notebook and I'm specifically looking for one with one so I can use my T-Mobile Mobile BB with it!

Can someone with a SIM slot give it a try please?

I ve seen pictures of an AT&T SIM card (halfway) in the slot so I assume it is for 3G connection. The question now is if it is, and if all come with one!

They all have the SIM slot, but they don't have the WWAN card to go with it. There is an empty Mini PCI-E slot but no antenna.

I ve read on various blogs that there are plans for a 3G version around december. Speculation, for now. Makes sense to have the SIM slot and PCI-E there until they sort the drivers etc ... Having to re-mould the case etc is not a smart move I guess ...

Just got my HD55 headphones plugged in at work playing music and I'm utterly impressed with the soundcard built into this thing - is the same card used on other netbooks too? I don't recall the NC10 having anywhere near the same SQ and kickback in bass once bass enhancement is enabled.

The soundtsaging suits Sennheiser perfectly :D

Before I take the plunge.

In the specs, it says "Maximum memory : Supports up to 1 GB DDR3 memory". hey? I though you could up the memory to 3 gigs with an extra 2 gig DDR3 stick.

Another thing, anyone has some info on battery life? I quite liked my NC10 in that department.

Otherwise sounds like my dream machine to do some DirectX 10 work (and play). THat's one thing that was missing from my samsung.

Cheers.

It supports 3GB ram and battery life is pretty good, same as the NC10 tbh although in Win7 you don't get a time view of battery life left, only a percentage left. From observation though it's about the same.

Cool thanks. Sounds like the perfect companion for my travels and dev work on the sly.

I'm thinking of holding back for the ASUS Eee PC 1201A (should come with dualcore N330, windows 7 pre-installed, 2 gigs, 12'', 11 hour battery life, what utterly ridiculous claim). I'm in no rush for a netbook, although it would be nice for the Christmas break.

You can pick up the 3GWWAN cards for £35 on eBay iirc.

Edit:

If anyone wants a decent little mouse for it I just got a Cherry Nano for £24, really nice to use:

That's compared to my mx1100r.

I hate you all, going to have to buy one of these now :)

Regarding steam, can I use my steam account that's on my main pc on this ? Never had a 2nd pc before?

Also will pickup the 2gb ram extra, but is the extra wirelesss card really needed or will the standard one do?

Ta

Love Cherry stuff, their £13 thin keyboard is a stunning bit of kit.

Still that means: Netbook, 2gb ram, wirless card, cherry mouse, thin case, lots of monies.

Any ideas on a good thin case just for the netbook for those ultra portable days? I already have a record that that will be used if charger.mouse/etc are required, plus the netbook in a thin case can just be chucked in as well.

Steam works on multiple computers. It will just log you out of the desktop machine if you start using it on the laptop.

Note that I've experience problems when I forgot to manually log off my 'work' computer. Sometimes I get 'TICKET_EXPIRED' error stuff in games. But in general it works.
