HP Compaq Mini 311c Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz ION 11.6" Netbook - XP Home

Kingston 2GB (1x2GB) PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3 SODIMM

just recieved mine today, and im very pleased with it so far :)

the Kingston 2gb went in no problem and does not slow my system down at all.

Got windows 7 on it now, just trying to get the hacked drivers to work, and also trying to get flash 10.1 to play my youtube HD videos properly (no luck so far)

Any reason why my DRAM frequency is 1:2 when plugged in, and 4:1 when running off the battery?

My memory latency goes from 83 when plugged in, to 126 when on the battery......

hey guys im wondering if someone can help me here, whats with the different lids types, my girlfriend is ordering one like now but wnats a swirly black hp lid, but ive seen images on the web of one with a huge Q in the middle as well as a plain boring silever hp one, also how can i be sure what type im getting, i hope im wrong and there all swirly

In the UK HP use the Compaq brand for their consumer range so the UK model will come with the C/Q "worm" logo. For the UK market, the HP brand is associated with the business ranges.

In other regions, e.g. the US, they come with the HP logo.

Just got my Mini 311 from here, and wondering if it may be faulty.

In Everest, it is showing the CPU Diode at about 65-70c when idle, when trying to play a game it goes over 80 and reboots. Anyone who has Everest, can you check what your temps are on the Mini?

damn you all!

just read all 26 pages of this thread (some great info thanks!), jumped in my car, went to OC and bought my HP 311.

it's sitting here on my desk now,

hopefully its going to replace my HP dv6 and current Acer one netbook :)

update:- first impressions after using it for a night.

The build quality at first seemed a bit iffy(compared to my aspire one and eee pc 901). i wasnt sure about the curved keys on the keyboard, but the more i have used it the more i have got used to it. I like the cheese wedge style design, thinner at the front and gets fatter as it goes back. gives the impression of slimness without being to thin. Have tried a bit of light mmo gaming, guild wars runs flawlessly, lord of thr rings online is great, warcraft also ran well, to be fair all 3 game seemed to play better than my hp pavillion dv6 which has a 4530/dual core turion.

noise? it is a bit noisey compared to another notebook but sitting next to my desktop (i7,cm690, plenty of air cooling) i can't hear it. it does get a bit warm under the left hand (not sure if anyone else noticed that).

hopefully will try out the driver and/or bios mod to change it from a ion le to full ion.

either way am a really happy camper thus far, even at £317 from oc it still seems a bargin, compared to the performance of my hp pavillion dv6 which cost more!

Hmm still not sure if mine is overheating or not, speedfan says 46c for core, Everest says 45-52c for CPU, but CPU Diode just a couple minutes after powering on still says 65c/149f when totally idle and over 70c when doing something as simple as opening a web browser, not sure if it's Everest not being compatible with the sensor or if it actually is getting that hot just for the Diode, or if that figure even matters?

CPU: 45c
CPU Diode: 65c
MCP: 50c
GPU Diode: 45c
TOSHIBA MK1655GSX: 32c

Only found one thread so far over on myhpmini and someone there says their CPU Diode is 65-78º and someone else replies saying that's fine. Room temp is about 18c here.

Got mine today.

Its a great machine.

But the fan is very noisy, compared to a full sized laptop (Dell Latitude)

Has anyone found a way to control the fan speed or stop it comming on so early.

The bios has disabled the allways on setting.

Last time I checked there wasn't a fix as such, I think the majority of the heat comes from the ion chip, so you might be able to cool it by underclocking the ion chip when your just doing normal browsing/word processing etc. This dedicated mini forum has a lot of good stuff in it.
