does anyone know what the socket next to the HDMI socket is on the monitor ?
ahh cool, was looking for the SPdif socket for getting the audio from the hdmi
looked in the manual on the cd, found it now, but just looks like an RCA connector
do I need to buy an RCA > spdif cable ? is there even such a thing ?
I thought it would look like the spdif connector on my motherboard (onboard sound)
when does the offer end?
might order this on monday if its on offer
S/PDIF connections come in two varieties, optical (also known as TOSLINK) and coaxial (which is simply an RCA connector connected to a coaxial cable.) The coaxial cable is recommended, especially for long cable runs, but for a short run a standard RCA to RCA cable (non coaxial) will probably work fine.
Come on now gamers! I need to hear some more glowing remarks that FPS gaming will be good on this monitor. I still game on a CRT, so 25 ms of input lag sounds kind of scary. Please try some intense gaming with UT3, COD4, etc. and report your subjective impressions. I'm really anxious to pull the trigger (so to speak.)![]()

thankyou, makes a bit more sense now
what I want to do is have the audio from the spdif out on the monitor going in to my pc, so it plays on the pc speakers
I have a line in free, and 2 digital spdif connectors (these must be the toslink things...)
is there any way to use the digital connectors
or do I need an RCA > phono jack lead ?
I have a stereo (2 rca's) to phono jack lead that I have tried but get no sound at all ,just a buzz, I tried both rca plugs on the monitor, and the line in and the mic socket on the pc
i was in an electrical shop earlier tonight, they sold these converter boxes
its to get the sound from my ps3, I have now discovered that I do get sound with an rca>jack plug lead (although its a stereo one, so 2 rca plugs in to one jack plug) but only in the ps3 menu, when I start a game it just makes noise, could this be happening because of the lead im using ? I looked in the shop earlier but there was no RCA>jack plug lead, only the stereo lead like what I have now
bought a 2 in to 1 adapter for the 2 rca's but that doesn't make any difference
will probably try the converter box, but its gonna be about 25 quid for the leads and box, hope it works !
Depends how hardcore you are on fps games. If you are deadly serious then TFTs like this one will have a small noticable lag. Slightly less zippy but you get used to it. Even when I went from my old CRT to the NEC wgx2 (which is one of the fastest TFTs out there) you can still notice it, but its minimal. The HP is slower than the NEC, but not by much. I'm happy with it for ordinary gaming. CRT is still king for pro gamers.....but how many of us are pro gamers?
I tried COD4 and HL2 ep2 earlier and its fine. For less intensive games like rpgs etc you won't notice any difference really. Been playing LOTRO and The Witcher as well, looks and runs great![]()
I have a lead which has, at one end, the audio jack that fits in to the mic socket etc on the computer, and at the other end 2 rca plugs that go in to an amp (I use this lead to plug my pc's line out in to my amp to get sound from the pc to the amp)
