HP LP2475w, IPS 24" Official Thread! (Now Available from OcUK)

Is it fine to adjust these settings through the monitor menu using the front panel buttons? I really need to get a good graphics card.

Anyone have any idea on how to optimise for ps3

Hey everyone.

I got mine. I've been using it for a few days now and it's a really nice monitor. Except I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed an issue where the very right side of the screen is slightly darker than the rest of it. Also I think that the left side of the screen might be even more slightly brighter. Basically, that the screen is not completely uniform in brightness, though it is most noticeable on the right side with the area being darker. The issue is very slight and is only noticeable on solid background colors, mainly whites and other light colors.

Anyone else have something similar and I should just ignore it? Or is it a defect and I should RMA the monitor...

Many people have reported the same issue. For instance see aramandos
post (nr.18): http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220974449/20#20

Hmm.. Just fired up Notepad and expanded it across the screen. My HP screen very consistent. There's a very, very slight drop in brightness at the edges of the screen, but it wouldn't be any better on any other LCD - none pf them are *perfectly* consistent - that's just the nature of the technology. And too be honest, once you are off a perfectly white screen, you'd never notice any issue. As I say, even on a white screen it's perfectly OK.

Your screen looks OK to me. Sure, it's not as consistent as mine, but it's a LOT more consistent than the Viewsonic Pro screen I've just replaced. And to be honest, I never, ever had an issue with the Viewsonic during normal use - and I used it for 4-5 years!

I think it's simply a question of how you feel about it. For me, your screen looks fine, and I doubt you'd ever notice any problem under normal use. I'd be more than happy to live with it. Still, having seen some of the posts that people have made about monitors on various forums on the net, they wouldn't. Your call.

I sent my first one straight back, the retailer requested I get a DOA authorisation from HP first which was no problem. This one seemed to also be slightly inconsistent, but now that the backlight has had a fair few hours usage it seems much more uniform - and I have a white background up quite a lot whilst coding.

I've just received a second one (from a different retailer) but no dice - the dimmer/pinker right-hand side of the screen is almost identical to the first one I sent back. I suppose they're all like it, and some people are just disturbed by it more than others.

I may just be too picky, but I've got a couple of TN monitors (17" and 19") which, while they're certainly not completely uniform, for some reason don't bother me half as much as the HP. Maybe it's because they were a lot cheaper... :D

Yeah, well I know it's not that big of a deal, the difference is pretty slight. Hopefully after a hundred hours it will lessen a bit like philjohn's.

Besides I can't get my money's back if I don't like this monitor unless I were to sell on eBay or something anyway. If I sent it back to HP for a replacement I might get one with a worse problem.

So for now I guess I will just try to be happy and hope it improves over time...

OK, bought this monitor off OcUK a week ago and thought I'd register to throw my comments in to the hat.

As is stated in the tftcentral review, and by numerous posters on this thread, this monitor has rather agressive settings out of the box. Knocking the brightness back from 90 to 15, and setting the contrast to 65 did it for me. Very nice.

Now, the 'reddish' tinge I got rid of by setting the RGB Gain to 30 from it's default of 50. At that point, I left all the other colour settings at default. The colours are now excellent.

My panel has no dead or stuck pixels, no backlight uneveness or bleed, and no banding/striping, etc.

I've had a couple of sessions with Cleartype tuner, and now I find the text is nice and clear to read - and I work from home developing Java code twice a week on it. The text is MUCH better than the Dell 24" monitor I have at work.

All-in-all, I think this is a terrific monitor - once it's been tweaked and set-up correctly. And for the price, I doubt you'd find anything better. The Hazro just had too many issues for me, as did the Dell's, and the Benq's seem to be poor these days including their support.

After 18 months+ of looking at 24" displays, I'm glad I waited and went for this one. With a 4870 graphics card (purchased at the same time) it's been heaven in gaming and DVD playback - no ghosting/smearing problems, and no 'input lag' that I can tell after many hours of Orange Box and Crysis Warhead (plus a huge amount of Witcher Enhanced Edition.)

Sorry to sound like an HP salesman, but I really do rate this monitor. Well worth putting on your short list.

Cheers,

Nomadd

EDIT: Typo

can you be mora specific about all your settings here.......

As I said in the update to my rather confusing first post, I've left the top three at 255,255,255. I've dropped the next one to 30 from 50, and left the other two at 50. That's got rid of the rather aggressive reds I was seeing. I've got contrast on 60 and brightness on 15. I've had the monitor like this for about a week now and it seems great to me. :)

Huh? I'm using FF and it's fine. What exactly is the problem you are getting?

Nomadd
I guess he wants to know how to enable colour management in FF, although if he asked a specific question he'd be more likely to get a specific answer.

Anyway, go into about:config, find the setting "gfx.color.management.enabled" and change the value from "false" to "true". Don't forget this will only have an effect on images, and not on text or any other screen elements, so if you're a web developer it may actually create more problems than it solves.

yes that hehe.....
You're very welcome.

So for now I guess I will just try to be happy and hope it improves over time...

If you keep the monitor, please do report back and let us know if it improves over time... I'm almost tempted to keep the one I've currently got, in the hope it would "burn in" like philjohn's, but if it didn't, I'd be stuck with it, and outside the return period for the DSR which would mean more hassle.

I love the monitor apart from this one damned problem - I can definitely see the text issue that some have complained about, but it doesn't really bother me that much... the brightness/colour thing though would bother me forever... :(

As I said in an earlier post, I've had the monitor since last Wednesday, but I have a very weird 'issue' with it, that no one has mentioned from what I've read... I have the monitor running with the custom colour setting, and everything is great, but when I load Outlook 2007 in Vista, after about 5 seconds, the monitor changes the colour setting to 6500K, very frustrating. I've Googled it, but the only link to sort it wants payment! Can anyone help here please?

Ta.

Haven't had any problem like that f1racer... I don't think that's normal.

CaptainCrash. Yeah I'm hoping it will 'burn in' too but even if it doesn't, I don't have much of a choice because the store I bought it from doesn't have a return policy if you simply don't like the monitor. It has to be defective, and even then I think I would rather deal with HP because they charge you restocking fee. And from the looks of it, several people have this problem so it could be a across all models.

The only option I have is to send it back to HP for a replacement, though I wonder if they would even replace it for something so minute. It's really not that much of a difference and it's only really in the top right corner(ish), and also mainly only on solid backgrounds of light colors, mainly white... but it's still something... I'm at around 30 hours now...

Yeah but you said that your replacement was doing the same thing, no? How many hours did it take for it to go away?

By the way, does HP pay for shipping or does the customer have to?

If your in the Uk im pretty certain anything sold under distance selling regulations can be returned within 7 days no questions asked its illegal not to allow you to do this. So if your not happy with it get it sent back before 7 working days.

Guidance from the DTI and Office of Fair Trading

"A cooling off period of seven working days in which the consumer can withdraw from the contract;"

I got my HP on wednesday it does have a slightly noticable darker right hand side of the screen just seeing if it burns in, in the next few days otherwise it really isnt worth an extra £240 over the TN 20" dell I have sat next to it.

I'm in Canada actually, and it's already over 7 days anyways.

If you have the problem too then either this thing is gonna burn in and go away like philjohn's (lucky guy :P) or at least lessen... if not, that means there's a lot of panels with this issue and a replacement might not fix it anyways.
