HP Microserver+XPEnology

Just done it :) I didn't have to rename any files although did read something on that, simply put the new nanoboot on to usb, rebooted expenology and selected update upon booting from usb and then used the 4228 pat file and all was good, backup to date :)

Did you need to connect the N54L up to a monitor to do this?

It would be a pain for me.

Thanks.

Afternoon all,

Just getting things setup to install XPEnology and was wondering if during the install its best to have all drives, bar 1, removed then add them after - or if its ok to have them all installed already?

I'm up and running, updated with the above and not had any issues so far.

Probably should have got a gigabit switch though. Something I forgot about. :D

I've got an incredibly frustrating permissions issue with sab I could use some help with.

I've just got XPE installed and got sab installed. Tried a test download and it was fine, extracted & moved to completed. Then I added a category 'tvshows' and tested again, now it says 'Cannot create final folder /tvshows/testdownload'

I've tried creating /tvshows and tried every permission setting I can find and it still fails.

Any tips?

you're best searching the synology forum. I use the built in downloader via the android app.

Gigabit switch is now making it rapidly quicker to transfer files, put in a 3TB Red as well. Just need to transfer and juggle stuff before adding my other two 3TB drives.

Gigabit is the single biggest upgrade you can make in your home network! You should have done it sooner :p

Cat6 was introduced in 2002, so think you can safely upgrade - Don't think you can be classed as an 'early adopter' now!

Can't remember fast ethernet to be honest, so can't say if it is any faster. When I upgraded, most things didn't even have gigabit ethernet :)

**** **** **** **** only just gone and put a 3TB hard drive in thinking it was one that I had just moved my films from ready to put in. It wasn't... it was another that was full of films. I'm just going to curl up and die now.

I've done that before now :(

The new 5.1 img is being tested but I'll still wait a week or two before updating.

I currently have the latest gnoboot on my xpenology, if I switch to nanoboot on the usb stick, will my drives be safe when I switch them over? I have most things backed up already but not everything as I dont have the space.
