Played a little with one this morning, abeit without internet. Seemed quite usable. My biggest question is whether it will play iPlayer? I know the mobile stream works, but is the resolution sufficient for the larger screen?

From CPW - Out of stock

Arrrrrggggghhh!!!!!11 THIS HAS NOT BEEN MY WEEK.

Hmm Weareelectricals seem to charge 5% more for paying with debit/credit card than bank transfer. Seems a little odd.

I would gladly pay that 5% for protection, everyone keeps saying he is a "drop shipper" so he may not actually be able to get all this stock he is promising, in which case I want to be able to simply phone my credit card up and let them handle it

this is a cost all companies will have to pay, though 5% seems a little high, to take online payments they'll have a charge, so are passing it on to those customers who chose to pay this way. most companies will put it in their price but at a guess these guys don't have the margins to do it so they offer cheaper priced items but with a slightly cheaper service.

Phantom stock > 1000s of orders on card > Gross TouchPad cost + 5% Charge > "Sorry no stock left" > Refund TouchPad Cost less 'Charges' > Net 5% Charge less Actual CC Charge > Profit

You would hope not, wouldn't you?

The article clearly states it's not over, and also it's about the US situation.
sorry mate it does as they say, they will be selling the remaining stock and international stores will have zero stock

"Availability at other retailers and even HP’s international branches is expected to fall somewhere between limited and zero. So if you’re wanting a TouchPad, here’s hoping you managed to sign up for that notification already, because it seems that HP.com is going to be the only source for future TouchPads."

Apologies, you're right. It does look bleak.

Anyone else with a Comet order that is supposed to be delivered on 5th Sept?

I received a receipt in the post today from Comet head office in Hull (I ordered from the Comet website last Monday but they phoned to confirm the order the next day) and the delivery date is showing as 25/12/11.

I'm pretty sure that the only delivery company that operates on that day wears a red suit and is payed in mince pies and brandy:D

TBH I've never been that confident that Comet will come through with this (although my order page on Comet website is still saying delivery on 5th Sep)

Been away since last wednesday but just got back to a rather unexpected email from carphone warehouse that they've dispatched my Touchpad \o/

I bought it when they first started getting reduced (after failing at DSg/Best Buy) but then got the email saying there was a 'delay due to high demand' or something like that, which I took to mean 'we've sold more than we've got, but we'll wait until any reservations fail to be collected' dunno how true that is but either way I should get it on wednesday (delivered to work, still got tomorrow off :p) and quite looking forward to it :)

Probably me, might use paypal because I assume they will give better protection than debit card.
Only if the 16gb is below £100

So who's all risking it with weareelectricals tomorrow?

Me, what choice do we have, with HP releasing their statement that no more stock for anywhere apart from USA, we are at the last chance saloon..

However I have grave concerns as the guy from Systouk sent an email out in responce to people saying he is harvesting email address on hotdeals, and he is saying the only stock in the UK is held up in distribution waiting on HP orders, so how can we are electricals claim to have access to this stock..

here was his email

Hi Guys,

Many of you have already spoken to me through Live Chat. We are closed now due to Bank Holiday and we are not storing any emails for marketing purposes, all emails will be discarded on final updates from HP/suppliers. The only purpose to keep emails is to inform those who have inquired about the Touch Pad (If only we manage to get these back in stock). About the 800 units, i'll make this clear now. There are two distributors in the UK holding stock of about 800pcs 32GB Touch Pads and 600pcs of 16GB Touch Pads and these will not be released to online retailers until (HP approves suppliers prices and decides whether to supply to online retailers). I have also been informed that the remaining units could also be released to high street retailers in the next 2 weeks.

I hope this information is of some help and patience to you guys.

Regards,
Kamil Anwar

Ill be on their site as soon as I get into work!

I've missed out by 5 minutes on every occassion, along with having countless cancelled orders.

..if I get one, I will honestly cherish it like a newborn, given the amount of effort I've put in to getting one!

Rang them today on my outstanding order, they said stock is still allocated and incoming. Fingers crossed.
However I have grave concerns
They're claiming 900 units at that, looking at the shipping list that's doing that rounds. With those kind of numbers I'm very sceptical to say the least.
