Huel: The Future of Food ..

That'll be fine. Huel actually thickens up the longer you leave it, which I personally like as it feels more substantial/filling. I use 4 scoops per shake, so it's already pretty thick, but by lunchtime it's thick like Frijj milkshakes, if you ever tried those. Being able to prepare multiple meals in one hit is one of the nice things with this - I make three each morning and it takes around 5 minutes.

That sounds good, means I can make breakfast and lunch at the same time. :)

Could you blend it in the morning then have it for lunch? Or would it separate out a bit?

that's what I'm doing, blend it at 8am and it's still fine by 10:30 just sat on my desk, think the frozen fruit keeps it cool for a bit. Dunno if I'd trust it by lunchtime though if kept at room temp.

I bought some electric scales as well so can measure out the same amount each day, then after a few days you can work out how much you like to have. Much prefer to smaller portions over a few hours than trying to force down a lot of it.

If I've not done any exercise for a few days I'll drop to 2 x 80g, if I've been doing a lot of cycling I'll up the next breakfast to 100-120g.

I tried the chocolate and cacao flavours from Huel last night. Whoever tried them and said the chocolate ones tastes like Nesquik clearly hasn't ever tried Nesquik. It didn't taste chocolatey, and was far too sweet. The cacao wasn't any better. Really disappointed in them. I'm not holding out hope in the remaining flavours not being overly sweet.

I've never strayed from vanilla so can't speak for the other flavours, but never found it too sweet. You could always try mixing in some unflavoured to tone things down.

Unrelated - Huel has been my main food source for almost two years now. I've used it to cut and to bulk and gains in the gym have been consistent. The basic rule is - Huel for 2/3 of intake and whatever the hell I like for the remaining 1/3 - although I still try to be good during the week. If anything normal food is more enjoyable now as I get to eat everything nice in larger quantities and without worrying. My only concern is them going out of business - I would be totally screwed.

Probably not going to waste my time going 50/50 vanilla and unflavoured. I get one with the unflavoured really well. Banana goes well to sweeten it up a bit. And a small spoon of Nesquik (despite them changing the recipe, it's still less crap than the Huel flavour).

think I've gone a bit weird. I've started to drink a warm cup of water first thing then make the first huel with warm water as well. Seems to work better as stomach isn't trying to warm up a huge cold lump of huel before digesting it.

I've just ordered some Huel for the first time, will be having it almost exclusively for lunch. Anyone have any tips on things to add to it for flavour to save me going all the way through this thread? :D

Thanks

Had the vanilla for breakfast this morning and it was fine, wouldn't call it nice but it was drinkable although very thick. I used to have mixable oats, with protein powder and a bit of milk for breakfast, just tasted like that to be honest.

I'm still using the MP Whole Fuels, I preferred the texture to the Huel and the price was a cheaper.

I still have a it for breakfast and lunch with a banana blended in.

Blend it with ice if you're not already. Makes a big difference.

When I was working out, having a mix of amino's and protein sources was important. If you live on Huel you're not getting any mix?

Warm water in the morning is great for digestion full stop. My missus has 2 cups every morning, then tea.

It's got a mix of sources: All essential amino acids are included in adequate amounts from two vegan protein sources: pea and brown rice protein, as well as protein from the oat powder.

I've not tried living on it but it's been a good 60-70% of my diet for about 9 or 10 months and I've felt great.

In terms of protein/aminos you'll likely be getting more with Huel than you were from your mix. Not to mention all the other stuff you're probably not getting. Have a look:

I'm getting roughly 50g of protein per shake, train 6 days a week, and for the last two years the majority of my food has been Huel. Gains have never been better :)

Ordered :)

I think this is just what I need. The daily recommended amount of fibre will be a big relief too. Always wondering if I've had enough.

I had my first Huel meal yesterday using the recommended amounts (3 scoops, 570ml water). Despite using the vanilla version I couldn't actually finish the whole thing because I found it so utterly disgusting. I'm gonna try it with a banana blended in today and see if that makes it more palatable.

I sound like a broken record - but ice is a must! I have 12 scoops a day and genuinely enjoy it.

Fair enough - perhaps it's not for you. My gf doesn't get on the malty/chalky taste at all. I do prefer it blended with ice cubes than cooled in the fridge tho - especially with a banana or other fruit thrown in

You put ice cubes in, blend and then fridge?

I just had my lunch one today that I put a banana in and it did help but the bitterness was still too much so i added a the banana flavour from the sample sachets that arrived this morning and it was much more palatable. I'm gonna have to keep experimenting with added flavourings.
