Hungarian Grand Prix 2013, Budapest - Race 10/19

Getting sick of Grosjean now, only a minor incident this time but all the same, after last season I really don't understand how he has a seat. Surely the costs of the cars he's trashed and championship points lost from being a muppet out weight the sponsorship he brings in?

What's the point of the bloody rule then? I never saw Webber go off to gain a advantaged.

I bet fat john is thinking right now "all those other drivers went off the track to get a advantage but only me got done for it"

So Webber did not gain an advantage by keeping full speed going off track rather than braking to stop going off track?

Grosjean was deemed to have overtaken while off track, even you can see the difference in this?

Caffeine fueled post

Sounds a bit like you do belive the conspiracies ;)

Total bring big bucks and he's managed by the team boss. Plus he can be quick. I'd say his seat is pretty safe on those grounds.

He's no worse than Maldonado. At least Grosjeans crashes were through being an idiot and not deliberate.

It's hard work today. Lewis had the racing line there was nothing Webber could have done, but he did lose 1.5 seconds ;)

He was just ahead at turn 4 massa came over so fat john moved to save killing massa.

But lets carry on IF fat john would have stayed on track and massa did not give way BOOOM two broken cars
and every body on FJ back as normal. If you have a rule then stick to it for everybody not just some.

He would have lost more having to slow right down though, so he gained an advantage by going off track as you would surely claim?

I think this is pointless now though as you have made your stance very clear.

If Total are looking for a French driver then surely Vergne or Bianchi are a better bet. Anyway not convinced Total would not sponsor Lotus without Grosjean, after all they also sponsor RBR who have no French drivers.

Had lewis for pole/win/fastest lap. Only just remembered when i posted that i had put a bet on saturday morning. Shame....

Poor choice, methinks. The new tyres mean that the winner is rarely the one who bags the fastest lap.

Yep which is why the next time Lewis runs wide I will be quoting you :D

It's not just running wide though is it. It is running wide and gaining an unfair advantage by doing so. The stewards obviously thought Grosjean was only able to pass massa and pull off that move by going off the track.

It's not like he hadn't tried to stay on the track. He didn't deliberately run off track to overtake. It was either crash into Massa or run wide. Surely it would have been an easy argument to say he was forced wide (just add the term "for safety reasons" and the stewards would be awarding him with 20 seconds off his race time ;)).

Are we getting to a point now where we can't run side-by-side on a track and you have to yield if a driver pulls up alongside?

Look at Massa vs Kubica in Fuji in 2007: vimeo.com/9064933

I can see why he was given a penalty, but my guess is that if it was any other driver in that position, they wouldn't have been penalised.

My guess is that another driver would have been bright enough and aware enough to know they'd gone off track and yielded the position back again.

For anyone claiming that Grosjean's penalty was correct and fair, it seems not even Massa agrees with you :D

Autosport

Massa says he only had 2 wheels off track, the stewards who have the full footage, slow motion replays, car data, say he had 4 wheels off track.

I haven't seen the incident so don't have my own opinion, but I'm more inclined to believe the stewards here.
