I've always said it, but I'm bias. Max is there now too though.

I can't ignore how amazing Lewis was today. A brilliant drive, as usual.
Max is getting there and will be a great driver, but he needs to grow up a bit and mature, you could see in the press conference yesterday the pressure has started to get to him, he needs to learn how to deal with that.

I disagree: he hasn't got the self-discipline that the other two have.

He was stuck behind other cars most of the race and could have made any number of errors trying to force his wounded car up higher. Instead he hung in there for a point and didn't spend all afternoon moaning on the radio. A vast improvement to previous years if you ask me.

I understand what you're saying but I think you (and a lot of people) misconstrue "lack of discipline" for race winning/edge. You've got to have risk to win, look at Schumacher he was ruthless. The difference between being ruthlessly risky and ruthlessly reckless is marginal though, it's easier to be a maldonando than someone who can stick their neck out and make it stick. Max has the skill and race craft, he just doesn't have the experience that Lewis and Alonso possess. He'll get there of course, but right now he's clearly a top driver who can beat Lewis on a good day.

I'm gutted for Vettel, he deserved those points after a fantastic drive. Still, he's got enough to his name that it won't hurt too much. Everyone who watches that race saw how well he performed.

I'm being proved very wrong about the guy, and I'm delighted by it.

Sainz has had 4 podiums in his F1 career and 2 of them he never actually got to stand on it!

Crazy stat.

Indeed. I think he's begun to temper his self and just ride on his skill. That with a calmer more mature approach on race day and he'll bring it home a winner no doubt. Once Lewis (and alonso :() retire, I don't see anyone but max dominating the sport for some time. George might prove his worth but he's got a long way to come yet. There's always lando too I guess. One thing is for sure, the future still looks promising

Think it will be another merc year.
RBR are getting through those engines too quickly and now being behind? Don't think they have much of a chance personally

It's a pretty rookie mistake from the Aston Martin team to allow Vettel to run out of fuel, he must have been asking for the performance engine maps trying to win but at the end of the day if you run out of fuel you'll get a DQ and 0pts. I thought that when it happened he might be in trouble, rather strangely the Sky commentator said it would be okay because it's only if you run out fuel in qualifying which baffled me a bit but Rosberg quickly corrected him and then nothing more was said.

Aston Martin are stating that there should be ~1.4 litres in the tank, according to telemetry of what the injectors used. That said ... the regulation is clear that it needs to be pumped out on request and you can't disassemble the car to get the full sample. We've seen teams have this problem post qualifying before IIRC, but it's been a few years.

Never going to happen. Still, Vettel won the weekend before it even started (his stance against Hungary's LGBT+ proposed laws and him turning up at the gate to witness the marriage proposal). He won the Silverstone weekend too (collecting little left by the crowd). Even the racer was disqualified the man won.

I voted a 9 only losing a point on account of not being able to have a championship battle due to Bottas wiping out three rivals.

Actually they were referring to stopping on the cool down lap, not failing to provide fuel.

Whilst it did Merc & Hamilton a favour - That is the nail in the coffin of Bottas's Merc career....

Terrible start (again!) - tried to make up for it far too quickly and smashed into a ton of cars.... Dreadful driving after 500/600 yards of a 70 lap race.

Fun race to watch, enjoyed it.

RBR need to put the whole Silverstone thing to bed now - move on. Horner again having a dig in his post race interview about winning 6 races this year, then being "taken out" at the last two races. This one - fine, but get over it and move on quickly.

Also - to be fair, Horner does have a point about cost caps and crashes.... That needs looking at. You can't have teams paying millions for damage caused by other cars and yet tell them to have a cost cap. That's a bit silly.

All true, but a dream for Hamilton and Mercedes. By crippling both Red Bulls he's given Mercedes a big step forward. After Mercedes drivers have taken out Verstappen in two consecutive races Hamilton has gone from 32 points behind to 8 points ahead and now overwhelming favourite for the title.

Mercedes are also 13 points ahead after being 4 points behind Red Bull coming into the weekend. In a way Bottas couldn't have done much better, though that will only be determined after the Belgian GP, though Mercedes are particularly strong there.

Still, there will rightly be speculation whether Bottas will go to Spa in a Mercedes or a Williams after his performances of late and that train wreck.

With Mercedes new found straight line advantage they must be clear favourites for Spa. It’s a huge turnaround.

Sounds like this race was a bit of a farce?
It wasn't shown in China because the Olympics takes every TV slot, but I had been checking the motorsport.com updates.

Pretty wild how much faster that Mercedes is than everyone else. Standard F1 to be changing good results for drivers after the race. :)

Bottas made a small mistake, on another day it'd have cost him a place, today it was race changing. It's silly to judge the outcome not the mistake.

Max today was hard to judge. Did he drive an amazing race with crippling damage or fail to capitalize on much superior hardware? I don't know how you tell. He certainly had pace in clear air, but we all know that doesn't mean much.
