HUNGARORING - BUDAPEST - HUNGARY Grand Prix 2009 - Race 10/17

I didn't see this discussed yet?

The London Triathlon results are out now and Jenson Button finished 2nd out of 407 finishers in his category (male 25-29). His time 2hr 7min, looking at the 53 elite male competitors, he would have been 47th. For the record, looking the distances and my recent triathlon performances my time would have been about 2hr 40min in that event (261st from 407, but I would have been in the next older category).

It was 1500m swim, 38km bike and 9.4km run. The fact that Button is knocking on the door of Elite Triathlete performance is damn impressive for a racing driver!

Nice work Jenson :)

I feel Piquet may well drive for one of the new teams. He has prooved he can be pretty quick at times and with 4 more driver slots next year (3 new teams, BMW leaving) I can see him racing next year. Imagine him and Bruno senna racing at the same time - the commentators will go so excited with Senna vs Piquet! :p

Stunning time, just a shame Lou Lou wouldn't take him up on a bet to see whose fittest. It always makes me laugh when commentators think driver A is fitter than driver B because of how much they look like they have been sweating.

I always used to be a bit sceptical of the commentators when they bigged up the drivers superhuman fitness... but Button at least is super fit. A time like that only comes with a lot of training, a couple of hours a day on average at least.

I think we know now what Lewis' dad pulled him out of Jenson's challenge last year!

there is speculation that piquet snr will buy BMW with peter? sauber and that jnr will be one of their drivers

this is the only place i have seen it so far

James Allen also rumours about that.

James Allen said:
On the face of it his F1 career appears to be over, in the sense that it is hard to see another team taking him on. However there are strong rumours here in Italy that he and his family are looking at taking a stake in an existing team, possibly Sauber, if Peter Sauber goes ahead and saves the former BMW Sauber team.

Personally I think that's the last thing F1 needs, an ex-Champ buying a team for his little boy to race because Renault didn't think he was good enough.

He would struggle to find excuses.. Oh, and if it keeps a team on the grid, I am up for it!

*EDIT*

In light of this:

Considering his CV, Piquet has more going for him than some and it is clear he's had the sticky brown end of the stick at Renualt and had some bad luck.

I think in a team that could give him some real support he will show his true colours, good or bad. The F1 field is a tough croud at the moment, lot of good drivers challenging for tenths. Just a shame the varied nature of the regulations interpretation has them having odd fortunes and misfortunes.

He being who? Piquet jnr? If Piquet snr wants to run a team I've no problem with that. It's if he uses the team to give his son a drive that I don't like the idea of. :p

I heard initially it was Williams who opposed the test for Schumacher. But then read that Red Bull and Toro Rosso also opposed it. Red Bull having not won anything since ooh the German GP. :D

Like that you mean? :D

Well, if your dad fails to give you at lst equal footing with another driver, you are not going to hang about long :p

He will have to prove himself and at consistantly out-perform his team mate to get any respect. Its going to be tough for him if it happens. He will need a thick skin!

A very childish remark, but there again it is throw rattle out of pram ferrari as we have all come to know.

Even so.... Its crazy, if the laws are not kept solid, then there is room to walk over all of them. Williams are the ones keeping the sport fair by not getting steamrollered by the Schumi marketing machine.

Thats a disgusting statement tbh, childish and very unproffessional. Why didn't they attack Red Bull as well.

The same sort of pathetic attack on Brawn in court regards the diffuser row. Whose allowing these statments at ferrari these days? Primary school kids?

Let him test cos my dads bigger than yours.

Ferrari and spirit of fair play, the man that wrote the statement can only have just joined the outfit. ;)

Haha, true. :D

Yeah. Quite petty really. Perhaps Ferrari think they are doing F1 a favour. But Williams do, correctly, mention Ferrari's official test/reserve drivers.

And why should he? Hamilton is a top driver and that is all he wants to be. If he chose to go the triathlon route, I'm sure he would be better and maybe even beat Button. Instead, Hamilton has chosen to focus on F1.

While Hamilton is working in the simulator and training specifically for races, Button likes to keep his mind away from racing. He has a very relaxed mindset. Myself, I don't believe that is the correct way to become the best racing driver you can be. In this day and age, you have to totally immerse yourself and centre your entire life around your F1 career.

I guess Button would argue that he is leading the WDC, which would be a fair point. ;) I just hope he can hang on till the end.

It always makes me laugh when commentators think driver A is fitter than driver B because of how much they look like they have been sweating.

So true.

For me, winning is the most important thing. Not being fit or looking good after you finish the race.

But Marc, doesnt all this go against the spirit of fair play?

Surely Ferrari wouldnt dare break the rules agreed by the FIA and accepted by FOTA, by having their driver TEST a 2009 car?

Surely, a team would not go against the spirit of the game, in order to gain an advantage.

:p
