Doesn't look too bad so far (relatively speaking...) in the streams I've been checking, obviously crazy wind but not much carnage or flooding visible bar the odd tree knocked over.

Still 15-60 minutes until it makes landfall but yeah I expected it to be worse by now.
Doesn't look as dangerous as all the forecasters and media were harping on about during the day. Storm surge is nowhere near 9 foot either.
Some of the worse looking storms turn out to be whimpers, and the ones you don't expect... Dangerous

Yeah my good mate in Sarasota changed plans and is staying home with it downgrading from a 5 to a 3 as they live in a "block home rated for Cat 4 winds and have steel shutters over every opening". I do hope it was a wise decision as I've seen some damage to buildings in Sarasota.

This was in 2022 in a supposedly less strong storm

Just woke up, not missed much the looks of it. Seemed to be all talk and no walk. Good for those in Florida though.
The main damage was down to a couple of big tornados from the 98 tornado warnings. The storm surge was large but as it hit south of Tampa, the surge didn't force up the bay water levels as the rotating wind was out to sea.
Still, lots of damage and some fatalities.

Will Hurricane Milton affect the UK?
Milton is expected to weaken to a tropical storm once over the open waters of the Atlantic and transition into an extratropical storm after it passes to the south of Bermuda. Beyond this, the remnant is likely to either be absorbed into a frontal zone or dissipate in situ in the subtropical Atlantic.
If the remnants of Milton end up in the Atlantic as a weakening feature, it could cause some forecast uncertainty next week.
