Hyundai W241D-PVA

Ive still got backlight issues on my second screen, and i have now developed a backlight buzz

Still waiting on confirmation from Hyundai Tech Support on a replacement which i cant imagine being resoved untill the new year

Can anyone confirm is this monitor does 1:1 mode over less-then-native resolutions over DVI? Ie. can I run it at 1280x1024 (or so on) and have it fill the appropriate number of pixels in the middle of the screen?

yes, it does 1:1 pixel mapping ;)

That's good to know - a few other sources seemed to suggest that it could only do 1:1 over component, it's especially good if it can do it on DVI & HDMI as well!

About the TN vs. PVA panel thing: what exactly are the disadvantages of the PVA panel? I don't mind paying the extra and better colours and viewing angles sounds good, but everywhere but the OcUK forums, popular opinion seems to be "the TN panel's absolutely fine" - whereas here they seem to be looked upon with scorn. I don't want to get the TN panel and wish I'd paid the extra, but neither do I want to pay for the PVA then think either that the TN would be better or that I'd wasted my money! So is there much of a chance that I might find the TN panel better than the PVA or would the PVA be undeniably better?

Ive been using a 19" TFT for years which is a TN panel and its perfectly fine, viewing angles are fine, colour is certainly much better than my old CRT and everything seems sharp and vibrant.

No doubt if i went for a PVA based panel it would more than likely be better, but if I just went for a 24" TN would I really be that much better off, if ive never used a PVA based panel before would I even notice the difference going from a 19" TN to a 24" TN.

My guess is probably not, as the saying goes if it aint broke why fix it. I certainly dont think the extra 200 odd for a branded 24" PVA panel is worth while unless the difference is like night and day. For a little more colour or a few more degrees viewing angle I just dont think its justified.

Just found a quote in the prad.de review: "

If a PC is connected via D-Sub or DVI-D, you can choose between full screen and justified display. On the other hand, when the HDMI and Component inputs are in use, the user can select from full screen, 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1, which is better for television signals."

I'm under the impression that "justified display" means it's stretched keeping the aspect ratio, is that correct? If so this seems to suggest that it doesn't support 1:1 in PC mode - this is quite a big deal to me, and I don't mean to doubt what you've said but are you absolutely and completely sure that 1:1 mode is supported for DVI (PC) input? (Ie. you've tried it and it works?)

Guys, Im running in DVI mode and 1:1 pixel mapping is fine, the same for VGA with a 360 connected

If i select 1680x1050 or example it will display a native screen with borders all around

Coolasmoo, is the warranty a straight swap-out or do they take it way and return 3 months later???

My monitor gets some distortion when using the PC via DVI (never had this problem with my Dell) but switching the monitor off/on fixes this issue for a couple more hours.

For those which were asking, I've not seen any ghosting on this monitor, it looks great on my PC, PS3 and XBox 360 via HDMI/DVI. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack for sound when using HDMI and is great when using my headphones.

There are some issues with this monitor though as I and others have stated, but it seems that nothing is 100% perfect in regards to technology nowadays.

I've finally bought it. Unfortunately W241D has severe INVERSE GHOSTING like all monitors using latest 24'' PVA Samsung panel !!! :(
It's a complete junk for games and movies :( For office use it's very good (sharp, clear text).
I don't understand why they are introducing INVERSE GHOSTING just for writing at the box 6 ms instead of 8 ms ? INVERSE GHOSTING is much worse than normal ghosting. Blue objects generate yellow trails, white objects - black trails (wholes in picture !) ...

Can't believe that for this price, with flag ship 24'' monitor, there is such a defect :(

got mine today form ocuk, perfect no dead pixels, no buzz no ghosting, slight backlight bleed bottom left side.

overall very pleased have owned a lg22" and samsung 22" lg had major overdrive ghosting samsung only had bad backlight bleed

Well im now the proud owner of 2 of the Hyundai's

My first screen is destined for repair back at Hyundai, and i was planning on just waiting on the repair and see how it turned out.

I did a lot of reading and thought about getting a Benq FP241W but even though most of the stock out there has the firmware fix for 1:1 Pixel mapping, there was still reports of the overscan problems on most models that were still waiting for yet another firmware update. I also heard a lot of people were suffering some form of black out which happens every now and then for a split second

So i thought sod it, i found a supplier who did a pixel check, and they also checked the Backlight for me, and i ended up with another Hyundai, except this one is the non USB version, and im happy to report (which you would expect for paying for the service) that this one is perfect

When the other one comes back in a couple of weeks or whenever i will probrably sell it or put it on my other PC which the Girlfriend uses.

I recieved my Hyundai 24inch PVA USB Version today and am extremely happy with it so far.

No dead pixels, no ghosting that I can see and very natural colours in my opinion.

Good buy. Just dont try and use the controls to set up the image in low light, I promise you will swear as they are so bloody hard to see!!!

Cheers.

is this for every button? ie the on button, is it low light or jsut the menu buttons?

also when this screen is in standby does it still have it's backlight on and the led lights?

anyone know how well the lg compares to this screen? im loving retty much everything about this screen from the reviews but i prefer the look of the lg. i will probably go for this anyway but just liek to know.
thanks

the buttons are touch sensitive, ie no physical buttons to press but the casing is black and the button logos you touch are the same as the black moulding of the case, ie very hard to see what button your touching id recommend a small torch for initial setup, when its in standy the back light goes off , when you touch the off button the small blue led which is low power (not mega bright) goes off totally with a small bleeping noise.

i've had the lg and sent it back due to very-very bad overdrive ghosting issues, if the overdrive could have been turned off i guess it would have improved it, my samsung 226bw had similar issues but was an 100% improvement and you could turn the overdrive off if it caused a problem.

defo the 240hd pva is the best of the lcd screens that i have tried....

i was all set to order a dell 2007hc until i did some searching on the usa forums and saw 85 pages of complaints about ghosting with replies from dell engineers saying its an issues we arn't fixing it but we will still manufacturer them i thought wtf.

anyway i fully recommend a hyundai 240hd pva 100%

so you saying that when in standy by its exaclty as though the screen is switched off but with a very dim led light on? which is what colour? :)

does the screen go into stand by automatically if there is nothing to display like say i plug computer into it and switch pc off will the screen stand by automatically?

finally don't know if anyone can be so kind to test this for me but im wondering if the screen is switched on and switched off by the socket in the wall will it still be on if then switched back on by the wall or will the on button need to be pressed again?

When in standby its like the screen is off, apart from the little red led. The screen turns on and off automatically when the pc turns on and off so no need to press buttons after the initial setup!

In case you dont want standby there is an off switch behind the monitor but thats a pain to reach.
