That is awesome. I read about it on the BBC. I'm still making Dyson\home parts :D

It's subjective, the fact people can essentially make stuff like that in their garage to help people is great, the fact the NHS has been so gutted so badly by the last half dozen governments that victorian era tech in pretty colours now seems like a tech marvel itself is most certainly not that great, I had a similar hand around '91/'92 before being moved onto myoelectric (robotics). It's quite sad that children now have to rely on the kindness of others to receive the level of care that was provided by the state 25 years ago, how far we've come :(

I'm waiting for parts to come from HK. So I'm getting my scanner all setup and working in the mean time.

How are the scans looking ?

I haven't used it that much tbh. I did print new laser holders so both lasers cross the turn table at the centre.
I want green lasers instead of the red that come with it. But I'm having fun :)

But it's as good as anything out there sub £500

My mate got an iSense 3D Scanner for Ipad .. now only seen a scan he did when he got it .. was ok tho mmmm was hoping for more detail on the scan on a face / body top he did .. was his 1st scan so might just be time / setting ..

good but I was hoping for more .. tho seams its very expensive to get so much more ..

Have you scan in anything you can share so let us see the files ???

and what does the upgrade do you are doing ???

Links ???

For people I use a second hand Kinect V2(£20) and the add-on for the PC.

because cameras are more sensitive to green and they have lower wave length, which decrease low scattering rate at edges.
Lots more just google and read. And try for yourself :)

I am looking at getting a printer for home, is it best to be looking at buying a complete setup already running or are these "build yourself a 3d printer" sites producing quality printers?

Also, we've a Makerbot Replicator 2x at work and we'd like to start making much finer and detailed items. It sucks at printing Braille for instance which is something we'd like to do. Any ideas on how to improve it? I don't know that much about it yet and neither does the lad that operates it, I would just like to have some questions I can ask to find out exactly what we've got and how we can make it better!

In a word patience. You need to try different layers\speeds\filament. The slicing program makes a big difference.
The BigBox is a British made printer that I'm really looking forward to getting.
It does nearly all of the filaments and it does Ninjaflex with no problem. Take a look at this vid of it doing Extreme Auto-Levelling

COOLING, If you want to print something as fine as Braille you need good cooling at the hot end and Deuse suggest trying different setting and filament.

As for a kit or complete set-up, depends on money and time, if you have plenty of time a kit, plenty on money a pre built printer.

I bought a pre built machine, (backing a kickstarter for a kit now) but learnt a lot from upgrading it to dual extruder's. So if you want to learn more a kit.
