i just got dead space 2 but i'm so disappointed

Hey everyone, just touching base to say thanks for your help in connecting us with Gareth about this, we've been in touch and I'll be sending through some Dead Space goodies to him.

Back on the original topic of controller remapping, I'm surprised nobody has written a some third party software that would allow low-level remapping of input devices for Windows... including mixing/matching keyboard, mouse and joystick inputs. That would solve the problem for all games I'd imagine?

Nice idea, now shoot Bill an email and tell him Win 8 needs an industry accepted 'Game button remapping' facility... ;)

But seriously, maybe (as suggested earlier) key/button remapping could become a prerequesite for a 'Games For Windows' certificate? Maybe something that all devs have to consider before Bill hands out the stickers?

Sound good?

Hey gareth, been following this thread since it started because I was looking for a review of DS2. The way that you're able to play games and the turns this thread have taken are fantastic! I'm really impressed. Though I do have one question:

Why were you punching the cows in fallout? Was pretty funny!

He wasnt having a serious game, he was just demonstrating to us how he played.

Good luck with the interview gareth!

Please let us know when the interview is in the magazines and on the shelf, so we can buy it, also when Dead Space 2 is remapped, I am going to buy the game. :D

Just had a quick skim through all this, well done gareth and well done Visceral Games, many developers these days don't listen, but kudos for you guys for taking note and working on getting this sorted :)

I saw this thread in it's infancy and it has grown massively so I'm unsure as to what the outcome is...

However, I would like to say that I have a couple immiediate family members in similar situations to yourself.

My uncle also found a love affair with the PC and he needs specialised mouse equipment to be bale to operate a computer.

Your story touched my heart and it made me shed a tear as well :)

I hope these companies sort this out, I mean why has game regressed so much? We had these features on all games up to Half-Life 2 from what I remember.... Why in the last 5 years have these features been chopped away?

Posted on www.overclockers.com.au on their front page at the mo.. Hope they can add some numbers to the list.

Rob sent in this thread about a disabled gamer who doesn't let paralysis stop him from getting into Dead Space 2 - the main issue is restrictive key assignments! So there's now a petition for full customisation in games, and apparently somewhere in this thread there's mention that there might be a fix on the way.

It would, yes, although it's not really something that should be needed in my opinion as games should come with this ability as-is. That said, if it was OS-based, then it would likely work even in games that don't support the mapping themselves.

Again, it's really cool of you guys to be working this in to a patch and sending along the goodies. Makes me want to buy Dead Space 2 even though I don't think it would be my cup of tea. ;)

i've tryed afew standard remapping programs but they don't work with all my mouse buttons

plus it's difficult to find another mouse that as 5+ top programmable buttons and the right size mouse

It's not as though Gareth has asked for anything from us.

OcUK are 100% behind the campaign for people who need customisable controls. I believe as a disabled person then life can potentially be quite unhappy, but Gareth clearly trys (pretty damn well) to ensure that his disability doesn't hinder what could be one of his favourite hobbies.

Gareth is an inspiration to many people.

He has actually, he asked for free stuff :D

People who are disabled dont know any life other than the one they were born with the AM, its not correct to say that disabled peoples lives can be quite unhappy.

Jokingly maybe, but then again so what?
Gareth didn't start a thread begging for free stuff, he asked for help and he got it, lol

OcUK gets free advertising and can see an increase in revenue because of this, why not give Gareth something for it?

A win/win situation if I have ever seen one

That could be meaningless when they see what a non-disabled person can do, and most of those things a disabled person can't perform.

no i didn't.

other people started that as a joke at first then i joined in as a joke.

Maybe a joke, you still asked though.

He can ask if he wants, I was just pointing out he did ask when it was stated he hadnt asked for anything.

With the views on his youtube channels he could be making some decent money.

I hope Gareth does get some nice gear out of it, I would just rather people didnt ask for things from other people, regardless of whether gareth or anyone else had mentioned free stuff, it puts an obligation on ocuk whether they are happy to do that or not (and Im sure they probably will be given the publicity), but that said, it wasnt anyones place to request it.

That could be meaningless when they see what a non-disabled person can do, and most of those things a disabled person can't perform.

You really think a disabled person sees an able bodied person and become quite unhappy?

The last thing any disabled person wants is to be considered a victim or different.
