Ace modder says amazon cant and you say you can. Ace says its completely banned from refering to or talking about but gibbo is saying its ok to say and discuss amazon just please dont link to their hardware please (reasonable) but ace is contracting you comments gibbo.

Just its very confusing having one don say this and one say that. Gibbo can i suggest only you talk in this thread and others cant that way we are dealing with one don and not multiple with different contradictory comments?

Edit - Regarding this post http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=19663523&postcount=114 I assume this states it is "now" ok to talk about games from amazon even if ocuk sell the same games because gibbo you sound like your letting the games section be talked about (nice ;) ) and wont fall under competitor rules, ONLY computer hardware now is the rule. Is that correct?

Yes, but games are fine, we sell less than 10 different games, so am fine with games chat and other items we don't sell.

Sorry to sound a little dense, but how is this different to how it allways has been?

Seems like business as usual in which case this entire debacle has been over something which wasnt an issue in the first place (if that makes sense).

Though presumably if it's a great deal on a game you stock it's a no-no?

I shall be honest with games were not too fussed, but if you do see we sell that game and the price difference is less than a couple of quid then there should be no need to mention elsewhere, if OcUK is hugely out on price then yes, because it could be a mistake on pricing.

Tesco and ASDA are different they sell there own branded mice and keyboards for example, the local ASDA does not sell branded products which OcUK sell. The site which started the rule discussion does, they are selling the same branded products as OcUK.

I think common sense needs to prevail here.

My local Asda sells branded peripherals that OcUK also sell, as does my local Tesco in fact, and you can find them on their websites too, which implies that's somewhat nationwide.

So after all of that fuss, all that has changed is that the "Rainforest" has become a competitor and that we will just refer to them as the "Rainforest". Kindle thread needs to go then.

On those same products I agree, but saying Amazon have x game deal or x deal on a book is fine and this is how things need to be moving forwards.

Which is what I said?

I also said that the specific link to the site shouldn't be allowed nor should telling people to go an actively browse the site should be discouraged as it moves sales traffic away from here.

Sorry to sound a little dense, but how is this different to how it allways has been?

Seems like business as usual.

Could well be the case, like I said my apologies for what happened at the weekend, but this should help to clarify the rules.
I don't visit this section regular, so whats the norm is unknown to me.

I don't get it, why post about all these mystery rules when we in PC Games only want to know if it's fine to mention games deals from:

Amazon, Play, D2D, Steam, Gog.com, Gameplay, GAME/Gamestation, Coolshop, Asda, Tesco, PC World, Curry's, etc.

More specifically, retailers from here - http://www.find-game.co.uk/.

Yes/no?

If no, list the retailers that are banned and let's be done with it.

We know that mentioning the new Amazon's DD service is not OK.

Why complicate it so much?

We don't care about other rules such as laptops/PC Hardware or whatever else you might think of.

THIS IS PC GAMES, WHY ARE YOU CLOSED, TELL US WHY?!

1. Amazon can be mentioned, but not in relation to a product sold by OcUK?

No, they sell branded peripherals and components, like OcUK.

2. Steam and other Digital Distributors can be mentioned, but not if the game is also sold by OcUK?

Nope, digital distributors can be mentioned as long as they do not sell branded components or peripherals similiar to OcUK.

3. Will there be leniency towards this rule rather than insta-suspensions given that it's unreasonable to expect members to check the store before they mention a game deal?

I won't be suspending anyone for breaking the rules. A polite edit to the post is enough, however continued rule breaks will not be tolerated.

4. Steam/DD Sales. Should screenshots of the sale be censored so they do not include OcUK sold games?

No this is fine.

5. Is this the FINAL update on the rules as we have had what must be close to 7 variations.

6. Will/Has Valkia offer/ed an apology to the banned members?

This does not need discussing.

3. Remember you cannot post any names/links/clues as to any etailer/retailer who sells hardware or peripherals for PCs. (Hence the Kindle thread being removed - it breaks the rules)

So what about GAME? They stock PC xbox 360 controllers, mice etc etc. Can we link to them?

Also is Ebay allowed or not? (Never been sure on this)

Could well be the case, like I said my apologies for what happened at the weekend, but this should help to clarify the rules.

if, say a new member or someone that doesnt use the forums much, posts a link, refers to a company or something else that is against this rule. what happens to them? is it an instant ban or are there warnings?

This then lead to two hypothetical situations ;
A new "top" game is about to launch, obviously Amazon et al will have some deals on for it, Valkia, then lists the game at a none realistic price, does that mean we can't then mention X game at Amazon, despite the fact no one will buy from OCUK as it's always cheaper elsewhere

Or, there's a multitude of threads with multiple mentions to X deals for a said game, Valkia then lists that game, are we all in breach of the rules with our previous mentions?

What's logic to one, may not be to another, can't really assume anything.

I shall be honest with games were not too fussed, but if you do see we sell that game and the price difference is less than a couple of quid then there should be no need to mention elsewhere, if OcUK is hugely out on price then yes, because it could be a mistake on pricing.

Seems fair and basically, after all that fuss, much the same as it always was

Has been a long day, my head hurts :(

Lol, is it just me or the Dons are contradicting themselves now? :D

I think I'll just take Gibbo's stance on it as a gospel.

He seems a reasonable bloke and knows the business side of things.

Especially that in above post it looks like me mentioning that Modern Warfare 2 sold by OcUK is a crap deal and you can get it for less than half the price elsewhere.

So it's all good, time to move on. :)
