****I lied these aren't the rules we're lookin for****

I'm out. Ace Modder seems to be gunning for me.

Still feel very let down by the behaviour of the Don's in here.

Thanks to Thundy and Gibbo for attempting to clear this up, but it's difficult when different Don's speak of different rules.

  • Do not LINK (as in post a direct LINK to their site) to any website that sells any PC related HARDWARE.
  • Talk of websites that sell other forms of media / items is fine.
  • Don't actively encourage users to go and visit other etailors that offer PC Hardware.

I got GAME from <Link> - Naughty.
I got GAME from Play.com - Fine.
I got GAME from Play.com and you should go their too - Naughty.

Any mention of getting hardware elsewhere should be a rule for across the board.

Seriously, just copy/paste this into your next (and final) ***OFFICIAL*** thread - it makes the most sense and is perfectly comprehendable by anyone who's not a total cretin. If people break simple, obvious rules like this, especially if they don't know or pretend not to know they've broken them, the forums would be better off if you banned them.

I don't really care what's happened to the dons involved, either. The upper echelons have clearly taken the matter under advisement and dealt with it as they see best - nobody else has the right to know how that went. If you're still righteously offended over however you feel you were slighted, unbunch your panties and leave - problem solved.

This then lead to two hypothetical situations ;
A new "top" game is about to launch, obviously Amazon et al will have some deals on for it, Valkia, then lists the game at a none realistic price, does that mean we can't then mention X game at Amazon, despite the fact no one will buy from OCUK as it's always cheaper elsewhere

Or, there's a multitude of threads with multiple mentions to X deals for a said game, Valkia then lists that game, are we all in breach of the rules with our previous mentions?

What's logic to one, may not be to another, can't really assume anything.

Gibbo posted this a little further up to my similar question.

I shall be honest with games were not too fussed, but if you do see we sell that game and the price difference is less than a couple of quid then there should be no need to mention elsewhere, if OcUK is hugely out on price then yes, because it could be a mistake on pricing.

We can talk about Amazon
We can post links to Amazon

As allways though, dont link/mention any product being sold at Amazon which is part of OcUK's main business, for example, Mobos, CPUs, HDD's.

Games are fine as Gibbo as clarified they are not OcUK's main business.

Edit:

Woops, Acemodder says otherwise.. Oh.. FFS

Lol, is it just me or the Dons are contradicting themselves now? :D

Seems that way.

1. Amazon can be mentioned, but not in relation to a product sold by OcUK?

No, they sell branded peripherals and components, like OcUK.

2. Steam and other Digital Distributors can be mentioned, but not if the game is also sold by OcUK?

Nope, digital distributors can be mentioned as long as they do not sell branded components or peripherals similiar to OcUK.

3. Will there be leniency towards this rule rather than insta-suspensions given that it's unreasonable to expect members to check the store before they mention a game deal?

I won't be suspending anyone for breaking the rules. A polite edit to the post is enough, however continued rule breaks will not be tolerated.

4. Steam/DD Sales. Should screenshots of the sale be censored so they do not include OcUK sold games?

No this is fine.

5. Is this the FINAL update on the rules as we have had what must be close to 7 variations.

6. Will/Has Valkia offer/ed an apology to the banned members?

This does not need discussing.

Hallelujah! We have a clear guide to the rules now.

I don't see the issue these should be the rules;

It seems the only way.

Use common sense, if such a site is selling an item we don't sell and does not sell items we sell, there is no issue.

Gibbo you just can't say something like that. It's all very well saying 'use common sense' but what happens when we get suspensions where our common sense differs slightly from a mod's common sense?

TBH I would rather have all competitors banned (even though it will severealy damage the forum) than this half way stuff. Either all banned or none banned is the best imo.

EDIT: Ignore, this thread is moving too fast, points answered.

Yes! Ace Modder is contradicting Gibbo, this is not helping things. Gibbo has already said we can mention Amazon as long as it's not about computer hardware, yet Ace Modder is still saying no, why?

I know, it's ridiculous.

That's exactly what happened two days ago during that whole rant, Ace Modder posted the new rules that were supposed to be a reminder of old rules (that were different but he wouldn't acknowledge it), bailed out and then the ****storm with valkia emerged.

At least ThundyCat and Gibbo are being reasonable.

Tummy that isnt the case. Amazon are allowed now just dont link to their hardware pages their game pages are fine. At least thats what gibbo says, tho ace modder says no for some reason.
