I love AMD

There is no point in comparing bios or idle temperatures. Speedstep, cooling, TIM, all make a difference, so the differences would be tiny.

Forget idle temperatures full stop! Concentrate on load temperatures with Orthos / Prime95 or Folding at Home.

I'd like to know how you avoid typos whilst wearing mittens & shivering ? :D

I'm actually quite warm. There's no central heating on at all.

Weird huh

I can't stand it when a room is all stuffy

My father on the other hand cannot be 2ft away from the fire without complaining about being cold

The lowest temp I managed was when I returned from an xmas holiday. Came back to a freezing house and turned on the PC to grab my email. Took a quick look at the temps out of interest.

Ambient - 5C

Core - 10C

Lasted for all of 5 seconds before rising up past 30C.

I'm gonna go ahead and say 16C is a believable temp for a 'cold and dark' startup. It obviously won't last for long though for reasons already mentioned, and to claim a 16C idle temp is a bit naive.

AdladUK, it might do you some good to pay more attention to those who are trying to help you. No one here is trying to put a downer on your obvious excitement with you new kit. Most people here are simply trying to allow you to understand the ins and outs of your PC a bit better. Needless to say this is one of the most pointless threads I have ever come across. I would hope all of us have better things to do on a Saturday night than have a lengthy disagreement over a minute error with someone who is obvious (and quite understandably) defensive of their brand new hardware.

I honestly had no intention of starting this massive temperature debate.

I agree with you. Idle temp doesn't amount for much. I was just suprised at how low it was (and still am). 21c to 24c for a dual core CPU at 3.2GHz with air cooling is pretty damn impressive

That pretty much sums things up perfectly

Well done :D

Actually I don't as I can't sleep as my rabbit has decided that she will plan the great escape from her house and is making an awful racket. :o:p

Dude I'm not. I'm saying Core Temp is right, but the motherboard isn't that far off.

You have no idea how far it is off :\

Your CPU could be flying along at 40 in the BIOS and around 50 in Windows, your sensors could be completely out for all you know.

Mine were really, horribly innaccurate before I updated the BIOS, now they report a much more realistic temperature. Give it a go and see if it makes a difference :)

I once opened my windows for 16 hours on a freezing January day and my single core water cooled underclocked (and undervolted) AMD64 3000+ only reached 17c. It was so cold in my room that I had to wear ski gear (the whole lot - jacket, trousers gloves and hat) and I could see the vapor from my breath.

Your CPU has almost certainly never been below 21c while it's been switched on, let alone 16c!

Core Temp is showing 23c steady now within Windows. That's after 5 hours straight.

I'm pretty damn sure my CPU could have been 21c in the BIOS, and 16-20c the very first time I switched it on

Then again, he has just stuck a large, probably freezing cold piece of metal to the processor which would take the temperature down quite a bit at first.

No one was calling you a liar or even thinking about the AMD vs Intel thing. It's just that the temperature you reported was unrealistic and we were pointing it out.

No offence dude, but that sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. Look at what you just said. Then read the thread about how the CPU can not be below ambient temperatures. ;)

Just hit 22c in Core Temp...

Can you describe this for me, I'm sure everybody makes a different sound whilst eating soap !

Playing an opera song it's like the speakers are under water, or like someone is trying to talk with soap/water in their mouth.

Then on other songs the sound goes all tinny
