idiot american missionary killed by natives

How did he die? Blood loss from all the arrows, or were the arrow tips poisoned?

Also did they eat him afterwards or what?

Just read that he had ALREADY travelled to the island, got a load of arrow injuries, returned to the boat, THEN WENT BACK AGAIN despite the previous experience, and got arrowed to death.

What a complete fandan. No sympathy from me!!

No I’m just saying that they currently don’t have the ability to fight for their rights etc... whether police etc.. are corrupt etc.. doesn’t mean there is nothing to be gained from having say communication with others, ability to keep campaigners, people who might fight for them in courts or raise awareness internationally informed.

They’re quite likely to get shot if they attack loggers, especially ones operating illegaly.

The ones that actually live near other non native communities do generally have some communication with the outside world (usually through nearby tribes that are more connected). They are in voluntary isolation, not completely isolated.

There are some communities that really are completely disconnected from the outside world sure, but those are usually the ones so far in the forests that they currently have no issues with accidental contact.

Forcing communities to communicate and interact with the outside world is not really something most campaigners want to do, and it's not really going to do much anyway. They are already known to be there and usually have large areas carved out around them, with plenty campaigning on their behalf to be left alone. Unfortunately if there's money to be made from that land none of that helps.

Do you really think people like Brazil's new president would care if a few more indigenous tribes added their voices? It's not like they're listening to all the others that are already calling for protection and environmental laws.

out of courtesy for having an arrogant idiotic **** in the family that brought everything on himself and brought unwanted and negative attention on people who want nothing to do w/ the rest of the world.

I think you're really misinterpreting the situation, i think naive would be more appropriate.

So symphony sadly... he was fully aware that they didn't want visitors and the fact it's illegal to see them. They could be at risk of dying from the common cold so why don't people just leave them alone!

He was only trying to enrich their culture?

Damn xenophobes. :p

in all seriousness I'm envious of their isolation from modern society.

It really is an interesting one. These people aren't animals, they're humans. And from all the evidence, they're foul humans who are (literally) orgiastic with the triumph of murdering any poor muppet who comes near them, including the fishermen who got stranded on their shores through no fault of their own.

These murderous savages are now so bold they fire arrows at helicopters.

Anyone making the argument for +1 natural selection in favour of the islanders is way off. Ultimately, if it was a family member/loved one of mine who'd been murdered and had their body dragged around while these nutters host an orgy of celebration over their death, I'd be tempted to use modern technology and know how (extra-legal or not) to get myself onshore with a heavy assault rifle. Afterall, rule of law doesn't apply and natural selection is +1.

This Christian git was sadly deluded. He obviously asked himself "what would Jesus do?" after being mauled in a lions den, and consulting the bible, it'd have said 'go back, and your persecutors will drop to their knees and beg for the mercy of God and forgiveness of their sin".

Lucky for him his Christian family members share the same delusion, where forgiveness is the only appropriate response.

So does this mean we can shoot any foreigners that come to our shores with different cultures and microbes?

I know, that's the case on some of the other Islands in the region concerned here and indeed in areas of Brazil

problem is they're increasingly likely to come into contact with people these days

Well I'm not sure I agree, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that. :)

Nope, you'll see I mentioned him in the first post you replied to, I'm well aware of who he is etc...

-------------------------------------------------------

Don't know if you've seen this, it covers the Jarawa tribe from the same region, they've had increasing contact with the outside world both coming into contact with settlements and, thanks to a road built though their tribal area, tourists - despite the efforts of the Indian government tourists do bribe tour operators to allow them to stop and make contact with them, give them stuff etc... obviously there is an attraction/fascination for plenty of people with seeing humans who are living as though they're way in the past.

It seems they've also had some hostile encounters with outsiders in the past but seemingly now are more of an annoyance for the Indians who live nearby in so far as they seem to just turn up and demand/beg for stuff... I guess when you do have increasing contact like this it is important for authorities to monitor it, they are still walking about with weapons and they're not really aware of or likely to pay too much attention to any laws etc..

naive how? it's clearly known/advertised/warned not to go there. he went there. they shot him. he went back. they killed him. idiotic, not naive. explain to me the bit i'm misinterpreting please?

why didn't God protect him? :-/

God did protect him on his first trip there his bible stopped an arrow & he got away with survivable injuries, as he decided to go back for a second try it was obvious that he was just too damn stupid to take the hint so he was on his own, or at least that's my take on it.

Or he maxed out his VAT's to 10 Luck and 1 Intelligence...

If that is the law your country has. Then why not?

If you want to emulate a 60,000 year old tribal society, then I would suggest there is something wrong with you.

There are many borders in the world for different reasons trying to cross would lead to death.

Yet people are saying it's perfectly fine for them to do it to this guy...
