IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Anounnced with 128 player multiplayer

I don't see how having a genuine complaint about a broken piece of software that should not have been released, is getting emotional, you seem emotional to me, and you're taking criticism of the game personally.

You might not see it but I certainly can, and a genuine complaint is one thing, your constant whining is another thing entirely.

when i click a mission or a a training flight, that terriblly tacky loading bar thing comes up, then it freezes or crashes

1) Install MSE and run a full scan, why have you got none installed?
2) Ensure Windows is fully updated.
3) Verifiy game files via steam.
4) Delete the 1C Softclub folder and contents in My Documents.
5) Quit being disparaging for the sake of it else I'm done attempting to help.

Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance Settings button > Advanced Tab > Shows in the lower half of the window.

Also, make sure 'Grass' is disabled in the video setup in game.

That's it, I'm done trying to help. If you cannot supply clear and concise information then it's your problem, have fun ranting over your issues, I'm off to play Cliffs of Dover which runs almost perfectly on my system, my money is on it being user error.

I gave all the info requested, the guy just reached the limits of his knowledge and backed out, using a lol! comment as an excuse.

No, no you didn't, I backed out because of your attitude. I give my time freely to those who want and appreciate help, you did neither so I quit. It's easy to understand.

Be warned, changing that is known to cause issues. AA isn't working properly due to it not being a true fullscreen application, hopefully it'll get fixed soon, Luthier did mention it was on the list to do.

Also, there was a minor update on one of the Russian forums earlier which was translated as:

Translation: at this point about 50% of features is off (just not ready), but devs will slowly add this features in game when it is ready. In future: new clouds with sub-scattering, new weather, landscape.

Also they say that current water is place-holder from DX9 version. New water will have a wave, surf, and will be transparent - you can see ships below waterline, submarine, bottom of the sea.

But right now they fixing bugs and work on optimisation.

so is the game pretty much playable now? Just come back from hols with no net so havent been keeping up with it

It's smooth and playable in the main, meaning you can concentrate on finding bugs in the modelling of systems rather than just trying to get it running.

Make sure you do the following to ensure a good start:

1) Turn off steam cloud sync.

2) Locate the launcher.exe file in the \Steam\SteamApps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder and disable desktop composition via the right click properties menu.

3) In video settings turn off SSAO and epilepsy filter, you should be able to run pretty much everything else at maximum depending on your resolution, but do expect it to struggle over London.

We are working our butts off trying to get a beta patch done for right now, which may still happen - stay tuned. In the worst case, this might be Monday. However we'll do everything we can to roll it out in 3-4 hours.

Stuff in this patch:

1. Major changes to online code, statistics, stability, etc.

2. More performance increases, including streamlined block loading that lets you switch between planes over England and France instantaneously (then watch the landscape underneath load in).

3. Force feedback.

4. True full screen, VSync.

5. Various changes in aircraft animations, FM, etc - a huge list.

6. Lots of changes to ground object AI and DM - another huge list.

7. New IL-2 style QMB missions.

We've also been working on SLI and Crossfire support. Crossfire is probably a couple of weeks out, while SLI is most likely going to wait for the next driver release from NVidia. By the way, SLI/Crossfire hardware should no longer cause slow-downs as of the last patch, so this shouldn't be as huge a let-down as it could have been.

Back to the trenches for me! Stay tuned!

(sorry Russian fans, I really wanted to simul-post this in Russian and English as usual but I'm kind of running around with my hair on fire)

Wonder if they'll ever take a break... :eek:

New beta patch just released :)

Hi everyone,

It's here.

Since, as we were struggling with the full screen mode, we managed to finalize our Crossfire and SLI support we decided to bunch it together and release a combined beta patch. All the features of the previous patch are considered final, but new features are not.

Please find the patch readme below.

************************************************** **************************************

The latest patch continues to improve on overall performance and multiplayer
functionality, as well as adding new gameplay options such as new Quick missions.

The current patch contains the following changes:

GRAPHICS
* Added beta Crossfire support.
* Added True full-screen mode. The game was previously playing in a stretched
window; that mode is also still available. Switch between windowed, pseudo
(stretched window) and true full screen modes in the Video Options.
NOTE: If you are running an ATI video card and you notice reduced performance in
True full-screen mode, please switch back to Pseudo to improve framerate;
* Greatly improved performance over large cities, especially with Buildings Detail
settings set below Very High. NOTE: if you do experience stutters over cities
with Building Detail set to Very High, please consider turning it down. Even
setting this to Medium will have almost no noticeable effect on visual quality
of the game;
* Introduced background landscape loading that slowly creates landscape under the
player's camera. You can now quickly switch from England to France with
virtually no slow-downs. Performance gain is most noticeable on CPUs with four+
cores.

AIRCRAFT VISUALS

* Added aircraft buffeting to wing icing effects;
* Increased wing lift loss during wing icing;
* Fixed the issue where non-symmetrical damage to landing flap mechanics resulted in
symmetrical air flow over both wings.

GENERAL
* Added Force Feedback support to the game;
* Added six new Il-2-style Quick missions. See them at the bottom of the list -
three each for German and British attacks of Airfields, Bridges and Transport
