Don't for one minute confuse lack of supply, with high demand. Intel are suffering still from the fallout from '18/'19 shortages due to 10nm being, well not being really, so they are limited as to what they can supply.

Trying to save face by releasing a product with 10c/20t just to try and keep up says an awful lot about the position they have gotten themselves into, nothing speaks more than this.

Its not "keeping up" if they are fastest. They are having to offer more value to maintain sales volumes. Which is great for me and everyone else. A 10 core chip was an XE costing £1200 not long ago.

Im not going to complain about competition. £430 for a 10850k 10 core 5.2ghz chip is a cracking deal.

They were the fastest with the 8700K, and the 9900K, I meant keeping up with cores/threads.

Which is great for me and everyone else. A 10 core chip was an XE costing £1200 not long ago.

Ha, and the rest the 6950X was £1,800 in 2016, then the 7900X which was £1000, in Q2 '17, and then finally coming into 2020 they've managed to release a 10c/20t CPU for £500

It's taken them 4 years to get this far, in the mean time at the £1,800 price point of the 6950X, you can now get a 32c/64 behemoth that demolishes Intel parts.

I used saving face, as that is what they are doing.

The chips must be selling so badly that i have had to keep looking around to find a decent deal on the 10850k. The 10900k is price gauged the 6 and 8 core K SKU's are always out of stock. There was 67 10900ks in stock somewhere and i came to order and it sold out before i pressed checkout. Amazon hasnt seen stock for ages.

People seem to over estimate the "productivity" market on forums. It really isnt that popular from the self build custom market. Far more people game for a hobby than do anything like video editing. So gaming is the most important metric for most high end PC's You only have to look how Nvidia are dominating the tech news with their new GPU's.

Productivity probably isnt even 1% of the market that gaming is. AMD has taken market share in the low end space because of value for money and finally catching up with IPC. Lets not confuse that with being faster or better for 95% of situations.

Very likley in gaming scenarios personally that's all I care about myself. That's stock clock though.

Yes, i agree, Intel are faster in gaming, not by much but yes take nothing away from Intel they ARE the best gaming CPU's, what's more anyone with the fastest GPU's and only cares about the highest FPS get the 10900K, no question.

In every other aspect Intel are humiliated, i'm not having some 5 years dead account resurrect and tell me AMD are for plebs, i'm half expecting that account to tell me AMD are "imitators", i have no issue in conceding what's true, what clearly isn't, no.

That's actually fair im on the fence atm I do have a 10900k on backorder but 4000 is tempting, but I believe the 4900 is where I'd be looking and from what I can see that's not until 2021 q1 or am I incorrect as if its releasing before end of year I may wait

Don't know, you might be right Zen 3 might be pushed to Q1 next year, right now AMD are sitting pretty in the CPU space and have switch their priorities to GPU's, once those are out of the way we will get Zen 3 but i think they are worth the wait, Zen 2's problem: if you can call it that... in games is the CCX design, Zen 3 does away with that and ramps a nice juicy 15% IPC on top.

Sounds sweet to be fair, my plans just to do my 10900k system and replace it in 2 years with whomever is best hopefully Intel sort their acts out. I'm getting a 30xx next year too. Fortunately the pcie4 is a non issue for now.

I must admit I’ve put my 10700k purchase on hold to wait and see what AMD does but also the PCIE4.0 situation with the graphics cards.

will wait till Christmas to replace the 4770K

You got the right CPU for your use case and no one would ever knock you for that choice, other people make other choices and those choices being AMD are just as valid, its nothing to do with plebeian alternatives, £400 / £500 right up to £4000 CPU's are not for plebeians, they are an informed choice.

AMD's chiplet design suffers from InterCCX or Intelcore latency, if a core needs to communicate with another in another CCX that leap can stall the execution, its a IPC bottleneck where a lot of that goes on, pretty uniquely games, this is why you see the disparity in IPC between Games and everything else.

Its a trade-off in the fabric of the chip, with it AMD are able to make huge core count CPU's cheaply, we get £400 12 core 24 Thread monster CPU's because of it, but the IPC in games is about = to Intel at lower clock speeds where outside of games its over 10% higher.

Zen 3 does away with the CCX in the chiplet, creating monolithic 8 core 16 thread CCD's, we already have an example of this in Zen 2 in the 3300X, its a 4 core 8 thread with no CCX, in games compared to SkyLake, which is the same core as Coffeelake and the 10K series.

Without the CCX the IPC in games is 13% higher,
7700K at 5.1Ghz 193 FPS
3300X at 4.4Ghz 186 FPS.

With the same 4 core 8 thread layout the 7700K is 3% faster with 16% higher clocks, ergo +13% IPC to the 3300X.

Zen 3 will have 8 core 16 thread dies, with 15% IPC on top of that and higher clocks.
The 3100 is the same 4 core 8 thread but dual CCX.

I just ordered my system. The 10850k at £430 is a steal compared to the 10900k. At that price i can upgrade it to rocketlake for little cost.

There is nothing wrong with it, i had a ryzen 2400 build for a while as second PC. They offer great value and will force intel to wake up.

The other thing for me is that im running at 5.2ghz and wont have to worry about OC stability. I can even choose to leave it stock and see no performance loss in games.

People seem to forget that OC are usually only stable for a period of time and then you start to see issues.

Tempted to cancel get a good a x570 with a 3900x and upgrade to 4900x when they release as iirc they are same socket.
