*****Intel 34nm SSD In Stock*****

What's the performance difference between Intel 34nm SSD and Crucial M225 SSD then?

Is the Intel worth the extra cash, what sort of performance difference would be seen from loading app's and day to day use from standard HDD to either one of these?

Exactly what I want to know, I'm treating myself to one. I think it's between these two at the moment :)
 
Considering in 9-12 months from now both SSD's will be aging tech with SATA 300 interfaces while the new drives will be faster, have more cache and SATA 600... is it really worth spending so much on them now?

I'd get the Crucial as at £200, depreciation won't be so harsh. Both drives will be worth a fraction of what they are now in 12 months, but at least the Crucial was a lot cheaper to start with.

I've gone for the M225 personally, just the right price vs performance to test the SSD waters for me. Also the longer warranty and twice the cache. I don't think its worth 70% percent more for a few GB & MB/s random write speeds. Not when the prices will head downwards.

I was looking for real world as well, anything but another 4KB random write graph.

If everybody though this way, nobody would ever upgrade :(
The technology market simply moves too fast, as soon as you buy something, it's already (or will soon be) obsolete. Just have to pick your time
 
9-12months in hardware is a massive timescale to be thinking about.

The hard drive is the slowest thing in my current machine so I'm just debating if the 64GB Crucial is worth the cash and I'll see a noticeable difference
 
I have mounted it on a dual hard drive adapter in the optical bay. I had bought an SSD sled for it but decided not to mount it using this as it would screw up my RAID arrays.

I originally had two WD 640's in the dual hard drive adapter, one for OS X and the other for my Virtual Machines. I will have to get another SSD to replace the my other WD 640 for my Virtual Machines now.
 
Thanks Dan, they're bloody expensive for what they are! Saw them this morning but not sure if I can be bothered forking out $50 and waiting for them to arrive.

Might see if I can just get something cheap made from metal, 2 bars from 1 side of the sled to the other to hold the SSD in place. Not like I'm moving my mac around so I might just do that!
 
So does anybody know when the next batch will be coming in stock and will they have the fixed firmware?

There is not a chance I'd pay 400-600 pounds for an SSD but for 170, hell, I'm going for it, I wonder how fast it will be in real daily performance compared to my 5400RPM laptop drive.

Welcome!

The next batch WILL come with the updated firmware which is why they where delayed. They will also be much faster compared to your 5400rpm drive.
