Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

I think my 10700K is safe for now, although we obviously need to use relative results to compare between chips, there aren’t that many games that are CPU bound below 60 fps with some exceptions usually related to ****** optimization (cities 2 I’m looking at you). Although being a sim racer, the 3D chips offer phenomenal performance in those games.

I might upgrade my 5600x to a 5800x3D if I see a good 2nd hand deal.

But other wise THERE IS NO POINT NOW !!

The only software I run wouldn't see a useful improvement - so whats the point?

I have defo reached an age where I have surpassed the 'oooh shiny!' to literally just asking what will I get from spending my money?

In my case, nothing.

I play Supreme Commander FA, Valheim and abit of subnautica/KSP - that is literally all I run on my PC - all of which run lovely and without issue, why would I care if it runs at 120fps or 200fps - no need for those games.

The PC industry is going to have to revolutionise what they are doing to make anyone care now - I want to see 2, 3x uplift in performance before I get in vaguely interested.

How many people pre-ordered Arrow-Lake?

I imagine Intel will improve the performance over time but it seems like a big mistake to pre-order it when there were no reviews and the new X3D processors are coming out soon.

Lesson here is never pre-order.
yep i pre ordered , didnt expect it to actually be that bad in almost all areas , brought it for gaming :( looks like im getting a downgrade over my 12700K all for the pleasure of 1K out my pocket

What i see on internet seem arrow lake its be only one socket , no refresh , next year new socket .. new motherboard
better not be, otherwise im done with Intel , seems AMD is the way for now , im hopeing for a better cpu next year to slot into these new boards , 1 gen will be the nail in the coffin for Intel

I just feel sorry for the people who held off and was waiting for the latest and greatest from Intel.

Intel has really sucker punched a bunch of fans this launch.
I think both launches have been very disappointing, from my perspective of someone who waited for both releases, I could have just bought a 7800X3D months ago for considerably less than it costs now owing to the new chips flopping.

Pretty much a one generation socket. Small chance of a refresh next year but unlikely. Next chip on teh roadmap is Novalake in 2026 on a new socket

Return it, and stick with what you've got until the AMD X3D parts are released from AMD - or get a 7800X3D if you can't wait.

Look, you could probably send it back and exchange it for a 9800X3D which launches on Nov 7th

Buuuuuutttt

Intel are fixing a lot of the bugs already for ARL so if you have to keep it, you should see significant improvements to all applications in the next couple months.

My problem with this is that there are a significant number of people who are not willing to do a BIOS update as they are afraid of bricking the motherboard so expecting all of their customers to just casually do a BIOS update is often asking a lot.

Let us know what you choose to do but there are some aspects of ARL that are both quite good but also buggy af

You should be able to return it. Also, next time just wait for reviews? It's not that we are in some CPU draught now and they will be all gone in an instant. :)

yeh makes me think there could be a class action suit against intel allowing people to return the parts for full refund , seems like a right hood wink situation

Too early to say if the low performance (in some apps) is a software issue or chip design. Leaning toward the latter

well i think Intel have just bankrupted themselves , people are paying premium price to Downgrade , with no upgrade path , untill 2026 where you have to spend same amount again to get another motherboard and unknown, what are Intel thinking ??? , if new amd chips are hugly better ill sell this new one for what i can get lol its worth nothing isnt it and get the new AMD

aren't most motherboards dual bios still? so even if you brick it falls to the other chip.

the risk of bricking must be almost 0 anyway, I've never had an issue so far, even when doing the unthinkable and doing it from windows

And then efficiency goes out the toilet as well. One of the earlier reviews showed it with the overclock and tuning of all the new settings and performance went up long with 50%+ increase in gaming power draw, that review you linked shows the tuned 285k pulling 190 watts while gaming
why do people care about efficiency? run gpuz and watch how many watts the gpu is pulling with different settings in games.

worrying about 50 watts or whatever.. the battle is literally in your mind.

worrying about efficiency but probably have about 50 watts of RGB lighting, where's the logic?
