Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

guess my 9900k is staying for a lot longer, shame really as new features be nice. Not that im a fanboy, but i like the intel system and know it well :) i think amd are doing great tho.

Im also with Arknor, no idea why effiency matters, cant say ive ever looked at that in a decision

Whenever I feel its time to upgrade I don't lock myself to any brand I actually find it more fun trying a different brand as long I think it's giving me the best value from what's available

If this was Intel's Ryzen 1 on the AM4 platform it might not seem so awful but the whole platform is just a complete dead end. I just can't see any possible reason to buy into it.
dead end platforms arent a bad thing imo, when a cpu can easily last 5 years these days.

but the performance per $ ain't where it needs to be, hell the performance isn't where it needs to be full stop.

literally feels like a refresh gone wrong.

Hopefully this was some gunk already in the lines from before gelsingers arrival that had to be flushed out the system.

seems he was there since 3 years, so probably the last ceos doing and intel spent so much money on it that they had to just keep pushing it out into the bowl and then watching in horror as it floats instead of flushing away

but you will

but you will
will he? anyone with a high spec pc is going to have a GPU which makes any cpu power savings look insignificant.
right now my 4090 is around 40+ watts sitting idle.

I guess my 2 desktop speakers with powered amps are using quite a bit from just being on.
My ultra wide monitor is probably using twice as many watts as a standard aspect ratio.

I wonder how many extra watts a monitor uses in HDR and at the highest refresh rate.
probably more than the difference in any CPU, I'm not about to lower them or the brightness to save a few pence an hour

it's basically insignificant in the grand scheme of things, as long as you don't have heat issues.

effeciency is the future. remember CRT's lol. how much longer will we be driving ICE cars.

40 watt idle for a 4090 is pretty high? mines at like 15 to 20w

yea and now you have to turn the heating on in winter so saved in other ways, these days you could combine an airfryer with a CRT, just add a box and a fan on the back

CRTs were proper sick though, the first flat panels were a downgrade, some CRTs went well over 100hz refresh rate when most flat panels were like 60?

Maybe I should ask for an RMA cos it i dles at 40 watts , probably cost me a couple of quid since 2022

it varies from 38-45watts

unplugged my unused second monitor and down to

Maybe If I lower the res from 3440x1440 to 1080p it would drop to 20?

dropped 3 watts going to 1920x1080 @ 60 hz for anyone looking to save power, the trade offs worth it, I'ma never going back to a big screen again

I bet gaming at ultra wide is like 300-400 watts in cyberpunk, but if you drop to 1920x1080 it's only using around 100 watts.

the secrets exposed, the less you spend, the more you save! THE LESS YOU SPEND, THE MORE YOU SAVE!
jensen lied to us all.

Looking at the reviews, I guess the one positive for Intel is that at least they're not on 10nm++++++++ anymore :D
If they kept to using Intel foundries it probably would have been.

Let's not pretend this Arrow Lake isn't the net result of those management decisions to go through round after round of job cuts. All that experience and talent was thrown out the window to improve the bottom line is has come back to bite them.

Unless the server side chips offer up some compelling performance and walk all over EPYC I think Pat Gelsinger could be on his way out in the next 12 months. He's been CEO since Rocket Lake and this was his 2nd crack at the whip to get Intel back into the game and frankly it's not good enough for regular consumers imo.

Embarrassing release from Intel. It just keeps getting worse for the company.

Every release as been extra power Hungry chips to get even close to Ryzen. Then in the effort to lower power consumption intel falls further behind.

Intel is in a very difficult position right now.
