***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

No budget really, just whatever is the best sub £100~ (which I assume should cover most air cooling).

My case is a Fractal Arc XL which is huge, so there shouldn't be any lack of space, my RAM is Corsair Vengeance so it has got fins.

Will the NH-D15 do the job?

you'll need low profile ram,i have the d14 and its great, the silver arrow tends to be slightly better though for cooling

k2 mount doom has better ram clearance

EDIT: d15 seems to have cutouts in the heatsink to accommodate the memory,d14 doesn't though

Well I've narrowed it down to the D15 or U14S... would the latter likely fit a bit better and still do a very good job?

Mount doom here and i had to remove it to fit a set of patriot viper, which are lower than vengeance. With the cooler reinstalled it was about 2mm from the top of the dimm. A curse as that ram kit was faulty so had to take the cooler off again.

go for the biggest cooler you can fit inside, the u14s wont cool as good, and the second fan on it does nothing to improve cooling over just the one fan

if it were me id pick d14/d15/silver arrow, get low profile ram or remove the ram heatsinks if need be

Well moving the front fan up a bit is no big deal, so I'll probably get the D15. I'm sure my case has enough room for the extra height. :p

Should i trade in my 4770k for one of these or all they all duffers? I havent even booted up my 4770k yet but i put paste on itand mounted it. Im not sure what to do i would ideally like to run 1.3v through something. 80c during gaming does not worry me because at 120hz cpu clock speed counts.

How much would i be out? £70?

run it and see how good/bad it is first regarding temps/volts if its poor then change it

id only change if its a hot runner or a voltage hog

if its a hot runner yet uses little voltage then delidding is worth considering

If buying a large cooler like 140mm (possibly some 120mm) Noctua, look up their site and see if it will block your TOP Primary PCI-E 16x slot.

They are going to address this and ram clearance with offset models soon (were shown at show a few week ago).

My Z68 ROG was E-ATX so fine but this Z87 ROG is normal ATX so top slot is blocked meaning I need to use the less than ideal PLX 16x slot and SLI is basically a no go for now.
