Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

4266's at the ready :)

Can you do me a huge favour, since I don't have access to that speed RAM, run some incremental benchmarks in AIDA at 3600/3866/4000 etc. I want to try and get some faster RAM in, but I need to prove the expenditure is worth it first, since I've already gone over budget on this project by like 150% by waiting for Coffee instead of Kaby, messing about with various parts. I'm not sure what else will demonstrate the performance, but maybe something like Handbrake, but it takes a while to run. Ideally I want find the sweetspot for price/performance, as this system will not be refreshed for another 2.5-3 years. :)

Sure thing, be sure to remind me. My memory is awful lol

I hope it's not awful, it needs to run at 4266MHz :p

I will though, it's not mega urgent as I can't finish this until gone November as I'm juggling so many other re-specs and builds, in the next two months. Pretty dead presently, waiting for feedback is painfully boring!

If your building product lines of systems that require a lot of memory through put for the next 3 years then look elsewhere or hire a sys arc. Z370 just isn't the right platform.

I'm not using Z370, as I said about 10/15/20 pages back - I am using a stand in Z370 mITX board for fit/form (not function) and it will be swapped with either a Q370, or H370 once they are released. I need to get the thermals done, then I need to get a finished chassis design signed off, and built. The the actual real testing can be done when the board I want is available, but why waste 3 months waiting for a board that is the same size and shape, and that supports the same CPU's, that I might not even end up using, if I can't get the thermals I need.

Are you selling these systems or is this for your own use?

Journey if you just want to ham up Coffee Lake with people then cool go for it. However if your jobs depends on providing customers products then I would be very careful about what you promise with Coffee lake.

Well for a lot of reasons. Way too many downsides and gotchas.

I suppose in that way they will always separate HEDT from Mainstream, we are now gradually getting more Compute Threads in the Mainstream but on Z270 and 370 at least they are stripped out, more than Mainstream vs HEDT used to be.

Well I'm hoping to get it on launch to avoid price gouging but i might wait a week or so to get reviews of boards.

Yeah avoid that and instead get early adopters tax :D

You can't win, they always get you.....
I'm hoping, just hoping that doesn't happen :(
CPU launch day and wait a while before deciding on board. Might be an internet order, dont wanna drive 40miles to find theres no stock.

Depends what it's getting built for. A six month run of boutique gaming console type Pc's aimed at the master race. Money no object and limited competition yeah could work.

Well I guess it depends where you get it from, you would hope that due to the large competition base for these things, that it will be just a few quid here or there. Especially since a lot of the retailers make the margin from the boards, and RAM, which most people need to buy at the same time, so keeping the CPU lower makes it an incentive to buy it all from one place.

Speaking of boards, I've seen the Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 at £247 inc. VAT, not that garish orange is my cup of tea, but I am sure some people like it :p

Not sure if I'll go high end on a board again. This crosshair brings nothing over the cheaper b350's its all aesthetics. I'm thinking something like a £200 strix.

It would also appear that one of the other big US retailers has the 8700K listed, at $429, bear in mind that they sell the 7700K at $395, so they are about $30 over priced on most things.

What the hell has gone wrong with this post..
